Part Two

"Father, this is Katherine... A wanderier." I informed him, bowing my head slightly.

He emerged from the shadows, wearing the same pin-striped suit he was in earlier. His hair was  such a dark shade that it was almost indistinguishable from the surrounding darkness. He stood tall and proud like always, making all those around him feel like mice; except maybe Alex. However, my fathers height or ghostly pale skin was not the supposedly most abnormal feature he had. To ensure he was feared by the dead or those he sees as a threat he changes his eye colour from cold black to a burning red.                                                                                                                                                                                        This was how myself and Alex learnt when he was working when we were younger. When our fathers eyes were red it meant that he was not to be disturbed by anyone or thing except from the dead.

"Katherine Rush?" He asked, coldly.

"Yes- Father. I believe that is her name." I answered, curtly.

"I was not speaking to you, child." he snapped as he strode towards us. At this Katherine grabbed hold of my arm and hid behind me. This caused my father to freeze in his path.

"What is the meaning of this?!" My father exclaimed, glaring at me as Katherine  sheltered behind my back.

"She's a child father, it's what they do when they are afraid; hide behind the one they trust the most." Alex said, calmly.

"I know that Alexander! Or did you forget I've got two children of my own; and you're one of them!",  My father snapped, again, his fiery glare turned towards Alex , " What I want to know is why is that person you, Jinx! Do you have any idea what you have done?!" He turned his fury to me.

"It could not have been helped father. It was the only way to return her to your care. That's what we must do isn't it? Maintain the order by keeping all where they should be...No matter the cost. I have fulfilled that father; at the cost of Miss. Rushes trust towards myself, brought about by a lie you told me I must tell to ' Maintain the order.' I have done no wrong, Sir. '' I spoke, strongly and straight backed.

"Huh," My father huffed, noticing I was right,, but he would never admit such a thing to my or any ones face; he would rather go to the upper world than admit to being wrong, "It's good to see that at least one of my children is prepared for their destiny as the next Devil. Come now Miss. Rush, lets sort you through the system. Your future awaits." He turned to his side, opening a path for Katherine to go ahead of him.

"Jinx? You lied to me? Why?" I looked down at the child, her eyes brimming with tears that lined her pale face.

I felt my fathers gaze upon me as well as my brothers stunned stare; as they both watched my every move carefully, as if to see through any deceit I would attempt to blind them with.

I sighed, knowing what I must do.                                                                                                         I felt a darkness rise within me; I felt it serge through every inch of my body with power I've yet to gain full control of, thanks to the elders soul stone. I closed my eyes and felt the temperature drop. I knelt down to face Katherine, preparing myself for her scream that I was certain would come and tare through the silence of the Demone home.

"Jinx?" A little voice asked, tentatively.

"I'm sorry, Miss. Rush , I'm not Jinx." I said coldly, looking at the floor.

"What? Don't be silly! Yes,you are. " She said, uncertainty and fear creeping into her voice.

I had to do this. 'But she's just a child' I thought to myself... But there was no other way. I was doing the right thing. Wasn't I?

"Jinx?" Katherine said my name, even more uncertainty plastering her voice.

"I'm not Jinx" I said again, sternly.

"W-Who are you?" Katherine stuttered, I knew I was scaring her. But I had to do this. I had to.

I sighed as I rose my head to Katherines' level.

"I'm the Devils Daughter." I opened my eyes that were now burning the same fiery red as my fathers.                                                                                                                                                                                                        I was right.  She did scream; as she ran down the path my father had opened for her.

I met my fathers gaze and saw  mix of amusement and shock on his ghostly face as he turned and followed Katherine down the dark hall that would lead her to her final destination within this realm and life.

I felt my brothers hand upon my shoulder. "Mind turning the heating back up sis?" He joked, sadly. Alex knew me better than anyone else, and he knew how much that killed me to do that to Katherine. But we both knew I had to do it.                                                                                                         I let go of the darkening power with a heavy sigh. At the same time as I felt  the warmth beginning to blanket my home once more, I felt an icy tear slide down my cheek, I was wrong about one thing - Katherines' scream didn't just tare through my home's silence, it tore through me as well.

The worst thing was... I knew that the one scream was the first of thousands to come once I took my fathers place, as the ruler of the underworld and as the Devil.
