I stepped through the old door and was hit by the smell of death. Many humans despise the scent but I quite enjoy it. I mean the living do smell worse, I am frankly surprised that they discovered hygiene improving methods.

The dead were lined up waiting to be sorted. They were everywhere. Well, except the forest of the witches. The dead were forbidden to enter the forest without a witch to guide them and there was only two left in the world; my aunt and myself.

"Jinx!" The purple sky growled. Ravens flew between the tall trees, lopping and circling in the dark sky.

Katherine tightened her grip on my arm.

"It's okay" I reassured her.

"Jinx Demone!" The sky rumbled once more.

"W- What is it?" Katherine sobbed; I picked her up and balanced her on my hip.

"I'm not sure, but I promise I won't let it hurt you, okay?" I told her.

"Okay." She said holding on to my shoulders.

"Hey, J.D guess who's' home?" the sky chuckled a familiar laugh.

"Alex?" I asked.

"Hell yeah!" The sky laughed again.

"It's my brother Katherine. Would you like to meet him?" I asked her.

"Yes please." She said, enthusiastically.

"Hold on." I instructed her, she did. "Latiano Simeano" I spoke; and with a gust of the death filled air and a blink of my eyes we were in front of an old, black castle. Vines and ivy grew around the aged door and the front garden was filled with berry bushes and roses of black and purple.

"Where are we?" Katherine asked as I placed her on the cobbled floor and took her small hand.

"This is my home." I told her, pushing open the large stone door.

We walked in silence through the dark hallways until we reached the dining room from my vision with my dad this afternoon. The fire blazed as strong as ever. By the fire stood a man, gazing at the flames, deep in thought.

He wore a black coat which fell to the back of his knees and split in to two. He wore black jeans and combat boots. His top however, was grey and read 'why fear what is to come? It won't change a thing.'

'Typical' I thought.

His black hair was cut just below his ears and he had a strip of red in the fridge, like me. Alex.

I smiled. I clicked my fingers and the fire in the hearth burst out of its' containment and roared loudly causing my brother to jump back.

"Holy shh-"he cursed. I burst out laughing. "Very funny." He retorted, facing me.

"Oh, but it is. By the way, you mustn't let father hear that sort of language. You know how he feels about anything to do with two floors up."

"He is so critical now days." Alex said, sighing.

"Well at least you can leave here! I however, can't."

"Apart from your school, up there." Alex pointed to the ceiling.

"Yeah, but I have to come back every-day! Where you don't. I hate it here sometimes." I exclaimed.

"Well, if it's any constellation, I have missed you. We really should email or write or whatever, more." He said smiling.

"I've missed you too, Alex." I walked towards him and flung my arms around his neck, which is hard considering he is about 5 inches taller than me. And I am 5ft 7.

He lifted me slightly and spun me around. I laughed.

"Jinx?" Said a small voice from behind us. Alex placed me back on the stone floor and said "Who's this J.D?"

"This is Katherine; I found her in the theme park. She was lost and looking for her mum. She was followed." I told him with a meaningful look. He understood and his posture tensed and his eyes hardened.

"How'd you get away?" He asked, concern slipping into his tone.

"I'll tell you later. Right now, we need to sort Katherine out." I told him. I walked over to Katherine and picked her up again.

"Lets' go and find our dad; he may be able to help us find your mum." I told her. I left the dining room and went to the door. Alex followed.
