Winds swirled around Tempester and Wendy. They gathered up the dust around the two combatants and shuffled it away, bringing along stray bits of debris. Carla was long gone with Lucy, hopefully able to get her out to Cana. Wendy still harbored a bit of regret that she wasn't able to heal Cana more, but the sounds of all the fighting were too distracting, and Cana had been insistent that Wendy go out and help the others.
She didn't think that doing so would land her right in front of Tempester, and she wasn't entirely sure what part of her thought to tell Carla to hurry away so she could face him alone.
Probably the part that didn't want anyone else to get hurt. The same part that felt the urge to heal and save.
Wendy kept her chin up as she stared up at Tempester, who looked rather bored down at her.
"You're in my way, little one," Tempester said. "This is your final mistake."
"It won't be like last time," Wendy said. "I know how you fight."
"That doesn't mean you have the strength to defeat me."
"I do."
"No. You don't. Thunderbolt."
A loud clangor echoed from the sky above before four bolts of lightning nearly took Wendy out. She pushed herself back with a strong gust of wind, sliding back with ease.
"Fast. Yes. I remember. You're a fast one."
Wendy didn't give him a response. Tempester didn't have to put much effort into his spells. His were based in disasters; they were calamities he could summon at will. Earthquakes, floods, lightning storms, tornadoes, and infernos, all of which Wendy would have to deal with in a wide area.
But it left him open to attack. Unlike the other Etherious, she noticed, he didn't seem one to care much about defense. She'd paid close attention when the others, as she healed them, discussed their various failed battles. All of them were different from Tempester in how they actually fought.
Wendy placed her hands on the ground, summoning a magic circle around her.
"Fast wind that runs the heavens! Ile Vernier!"
Suddenly, her already light body felt weightless, yet also entirely under her control. She didn't get up; she moved into a different stance, positioned her legs in a squat, then shot forward, a tiny missile.
"Sky Dragon Claw!"
She tore her arm forward, Tempester too surprised to see it coming as Wendy slammed into him and sent him flying back.
"Inferno!"
Wendy pivoted, bouncing away from the fire that nearly scorched her. She bounded back in the air. Tempester coughed, then shook himself down and shrugged off the attack.
Wendy unfolded her arms again.
"Power of the stout arms that tear the heavens! Ile Arms!"
Strength surged into her. Wendy bounced off a small pillar of wind she created, then darted twice more off some rubble, charging Tempester again.
"Sky Dragon Wing Attack!"
Tempester snarled and struck out at her, able to slam his body into her spell and break apart the winds she'd summoned. Wendy didn't let it discourage her. With her speed boost, she punched once, twice, then a third time in Tempester's torso.
"Sky Dragon Roar!"
Tempester was already on his back foot as the spell hit, and it sent him careening. Wendy didn't let up. She couldn't. If she did, he'd think of a spell; he'd destroy the area. Wendy had to be faster than Tempester thought; she had to do as much damage as she possibly could. No matter how little, it had to be frequent.
