The only light in the garage came from a single overhead bulb swaying slightly from the ceiling, casting long shadows across the floor. The place smelled like old oil and dust. Tires were stacked high in the corners. A broken-down car sat in the back, half-covered by a tarp.

Two men stood near the entrance, both in black hoodies, their faces half-covered. One of them paced back and forth while the other leaned against a pillar, arms crossed.

A third man stepped into the space, calm and controlled. Niko.

His presence was sharp, like a blade. Black hooded jacket. Gold chain flashing in the low light. Eyes cold.

"You got him?" Niko asked without any formal greeting.

The shorter of the two nodded. "Yeah. Dropped him at the mall just like you said. Clean hit. Slid off before anybody could get a plate."

"You make sure it was him?" Niko asked again, voice low, careful.

"Chest shot. He dropped. That's all I saw before we peeled."

"You want us to double back? Make sure he don't make it?" One questioned causing Niko to pause and he considered it before shaking his head no.

"Nah. If he live, that's even better. She'll be scared. Always wondering if he'll be next. If she will. I want her mind fucked up." Niko voiced.

The other guy added, "Ain't gonna lie, bruh. That was bold. Broad daylight, all them people around."

Niko chuckled dryly, but it wasn't amusement. It was menace.

"Nah. It's ight." He said and the two men exchanged looks.

"Why you got it out for that girl anyway?"

"I just do. She just different." He said, shrugging. "Plus that lil nigga killed Amir. Did you forget that part? Not my fault her and him had sumn going on. Either way I bet she get my message now."

"You just gonna keep harassing her?" The other asked.

"Fa now. Until my bigger plan come along." Niko voiced. The two men found it strange that he was so interested in Kiyari, being that he didn't even really know her.

They figured he just had some deep rooted obsession with her since what happened prior and they were correct.

"I'll send y'all the rest of the money. Stay low." Niko told the two men.

With that, he turned and walked out, his footsteps echoing through the garage

The waiting room was cold. Not physically, but emotionally. Everything about it made my skin crawl. The blank white walls, the lights, the sound of quiet crying in the corner—it felt like death was in the air.

I sat on the edge of the hospital chair with my arms wrapped tightly around myself like that would somehow hold me together. I was shaking and barely noticed that my leg had been bouncing for the past few minutes. My eyes were swollen from crying and my mind refused to sit still.

Khalil.

When I got to the hospital everything blurred. I barely remembered the car ride. I don't even remember walking through the automatic doors. All I could focus on was Khalil.
