i woke up to sunlight spilling through the curtains, the kind of warmth that felt like an unspoken promise: today would be fine. nothing urgent was calling, no alarms demanding my presence in the lab. i had made the decision last night—today, the lab would stay closed. everyone deserved a breather, myself included.
as i stretched, the quiet settled over me like a blanket, but it didn't take long for my thoughts to stir.
touya.
what was he doing now? was he fine?
though, deep down, i knew my heart wasn't reaching for him the way it used to. i still cared, i always would, but something felt... dulled, distant.
and then there was keigo. keigo and his confusing, persistent presence in my life. he was my best friend, wasn't he? but lately, there was this weight to my thoughts about him, this strange pull that left me restless as if he had some sort of attract quirk. i needed someone to talk to about it. fuyumi would've been my first choice—she was like a sister to me—but we still weren't on speaking terms.
i truly miss her and natsuo...
mei, then. mei could listen. she had a way of cutting through the nonsense, even if her solutions were sometimes a little too straightforward.
after getting dressed and grabbing my bag, i decided to head to ua. aizawa needed an update on the progress in project rewind anyway, and i figured seeing eri would do me some good, maybe it could help me study the nature of her emotions.
the campus was buzzing with its usual energy, but when i reached aizawa in heights alliance's common room, the atmosphere was quieter, the students were probably off somewhere. eri was seated in the floor, with a bunch of colors and paper on a table, coloring something intricate, while aizawa stood nearby with shinso, who i was now meeting for the first time.
"good morning, aizawa-sensei," i greeted, offering a polite nod before turning to the purple haired boy. "and you must be shinso. it's nice to finally meet you. i've heard a lot about your progress and your quirk. i hope you can join the hero course soon."
he gave a small, awkward smile. "thanks. i've heard about your work too. sounds impressive."
"well, i try." i took out the folder and handed over the paperwork to aizawa. "here's the latest update on the project. details must still remain confidential though, the commission still doesn't know, but i thought you'd appreciate seeing the progress, so far, we've been able to restore but for couple of seconds."
aizawa skimmed through the documents, his expression neutral but approving. "that's still some good work. you've been handling this very well."
"thank you. it's been... a handful, but worth it."
