the rain had eased into a soft drizzle by the time i pushed open the door to my apartment. the familiar scent of home greeted me, and i let out a tired sigh, shrugging off my bag and setting it down by the counter. my shoes were next, kicked off a bit carelessly as i peeled off my damp coat and tossed it over the back of a chair. the warmth of the room seeped into my skin, and i rolled my shoulders, trying to shake off the chill from outside.
i wandered into my bedroom and pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a sweater, savoring the way the soft fabric felt against my skin. the sound of rain against the windows was quieter now, a rhythmic backdrop that filled the space.
the calm didn't last long. minutes later, i heard the front door creak open, followed by familiar footsteps.
as promised, keigo was already here.
"thank you for not locking your door," keigo called out as he let himself in. i turned just in time to see him shake out his damp golden hair like a wet dog, droplets of water scattering everywhere.
"you're tracking water all over my floor," i said, folding my arms as he walked over to me, plastic bags in hand.
"oh, c'mon," he replied, leaning in to press a quick peck to my forehead, his lips cold but soft. "i brought the korean food i texted you about. that earns me some slack."
my gaze dropped to his soaked jacket and black compression shirt. "you didn't have to swim all the way to korea to get dinner, you know."
he smirked, setting the bag on the counter. "wow, hilarious. you should take that act on the road." then, with a shrug, he started peeling off his jacket. "i'm gonna use your shower before i get sick and throw snot all over your pillows."
"yeah, go for it," i said smiling, waving him off as he disappeared down the hallway. the sound of the bedroom door closing was followed shortly by the rush of running water.
left alone, i unpacked the food, the rich, spicy aroma making my stomach growl. as i worked, my phone buzzed on the counter. i grabbed it, scrolling through the endless notifications until one caught my eye: a post in a true crime forum. curiosity tugged at me, and i tapped on the link.
what i saw made my breath hitch.
"leaked footage of downtown club incident: hellish flames surge chaos"
description: "low-quality cctv footage of the incident near musutafu's downtown club district a few days ago. unclear audio. viewers discretion advised. rumored villain activity?"
the post was gaining traction fast—thousands of upvotes and comments piling in. i hesitated before clicking on the video, my thumb hovering over the play button like it would burn me.
