I looked back and forth between Lola and the football player.

Lola's cheeks were flushed a deep crimson red, her brown eyes seeming to pop open in surprise and embarrassment.

The football player didn't even look over at us. At all.

Putting two and two together, I tapped Lola's leg with my foot.

"Hey, who is that guy?"

She jumped, as if startled by my question. Her cheeks got darker, and she started fidgeting. "Who? The football player?"

"Uh, Yeah." I said in a 'duh' tone.

"Oh, his name is Trent. He's the football teams captain." She explained, suddenly interested with her hands that were folded in her lap.

"So what's the damage between you two?" I asked, interested.

"What?!" She tried to feign surprise. "What damage? There is absolutely nothing between us!" She started making big gestures with her hands, and wouldn't meet my stare.

"I think its funny how fucking stupid you think I am." I said chillingly darkly. I will find out what's going on, even if I have to cruelly rip it out of her.

She swallowed loudly, and my ears perked at the sound of her nervousness.

"I had a crush on him. It was small though." She tried to explain by putting her pointer finger close to her thumb. "But on my birthday, something changed. My small crush turned into something else. A sort of longing?"

It seemed to be hard for her to talk about. A nice person would've told her it was okay, and that she didn't have to explain. But who am I kidding, when am I ever nice.

"He seemed to be avoiding me, so I confronted him at his locker. I told him off, then explained my feelings for him then,"

I could tell it went downhill from there because her face showed all her raw emotions. She was holding back tears.

"He waited until the halls were full to reject me in front of everyone. He wanted everyone to know that he never liked me, and that he never would."

She stopped talking then. She glanced at him, before she got up and ran out of the classroom, leaving me in shock. She slammed the door on the way out, and everyone else was left staring at the door in shock and confusion.

I looked over at Trent and he was staring down at the paper in front of him, trying to appear unbothered. Only I could see that the pencil in his right hand was being gripped by him a little too tightly.

*~*~*~*~

After detention I headed straight home, threw away my biology homework, and pulled out my deep green bathing suit.

When I put it on, I threw on a yellow summer dress with no straps, and headed to the beach.

*~*~*~

Ten blocks later, I'm on the beach, and walking towards the water, towel in my hand and a book in the other.

I laid the towel down ten feet away from the water, and laid down on it.

I read my book for an hour, soaking up the sun before I stretched and yawned.

I put the book down and took my summer dress off. I then walked into water slowly. The waves licked at my calves, and a calm serenity filled my soul. I took a deep breath of the salty air, and released it through my nose. This was the first time that I've felt at ease since coming here.

I was always a water bug. I was never allowed in the water in my old pack, because someone spread rumors about me having a contagious disease, and they were afraid of catching it.
I don't even know how to swim yet. Water is my sweet escape, and yet I just can't get over the feeling of water being in my nose without panicking.

I was now standing in water that reached my shoulders. I slowly slid under the water, and watched as the world was filled with blue swirls, and the lights from the sun. The lights danced on top of the water smoothly and delicately. Fish swam around my body then, completely unaware that they were swimming so closely to a predator.

That's when I saw it. A wolf. On top of a cliff above the water where I stood. Quickly emerging from the water, I gasped and sputtered for oxygen.

I looked again, only for the wolf to be gone. Confused I slowly made my way back to my towel and book before slowly gathering my things, and leaving. I couldn't risk the chance of being caught by my old pack. I wouldn't risk the chance.
