"Hey Lola! Wait up would you?" I said, jogging up to catch my best friend.
She stopped and turned towards me in confusion. Recognition overcame her face as she saw me. "Oh, hey Mack."
I came to a stop next to her, breathing a little harder than normal. "Where are you headed to so quickly?"
I had just finished talking to the pack doctor when I noticed Lola walking by so quickly it looked like she was trying to get away from a ghost.
She looked behind me wildly, as if she were searching for something. "Oh nothing. I think I might have left my flat iron on at home."
"But you don't straighten your hair." I said in confusion. My eyebrows scrunched up together.
"Oh! I meant my um, my curling iron."
"I thought your curls were natural?" I asked her.
She looked like she was trying to say something when I heard, "Hey Lola! Lola!"
I turned around the same time she did, and saw my brother some distance away, trying to get Lola's attention.
"What's going on?" I asked, confused as to why my brother was trying to get her attention.
"Mack you've got to help me." Lola grabbed me by my forearms, and shook me. She had a crazed look on her face. "I can't talk to him right now. I just can't."
I looked at her face and saw that she was hurt and confused. I could see some underlying emotion clouding her face. Uncontrollable love.
I studied my brothers face from a distance as he made his way over to us. His face was a mask of sorrow and longing.
"Lola." I said quietly, hurt lacing my tone. I could feel the emotions pooling off of her all at once.
Without thinking, I grabbed her arm and ran into the woods, trying to get away from Trent. We ran until our lungs squeezed in our chests tightly in pain. We discovered a pond surrounded by life. Frogs were croaking, and crickets were chirping their songs. Dragonflies buzzed around our heads peacefully, and the birds screeched their musical notes nonstop. It was so very beautiful. Too bad I couldn't enjoy it.
"Lola are you fucking with me right now?" I whipped around and yelled at her angrily. "You're supposed to be my fucking best friend you whore, and you don't even tell me that my douche bag of a brother is your mate?"
Lola's eyes grew big. "I'm sorry Mackenzie. I couldn't tell anyone. I was so happy when I saw him and then he rejected me. I was so embarrassed."
"Lola." I said quietly, breathing in through my nose and out my mouth to calm myself down. "Lola, we've been best friends since birth and you can't even confide in me anymore? I thought you were the one person who I didn't have to worry about keeping secrets from me. First you leave me behind for years, and now this?"
I stared at her hard, waiting for a response. When I didn't get one, my eyes started tearing up.
"So I guess we're not as close as I thought we were."
"Don't say that Mack."
"No, it's true. I'm going to always speak the truth no matter what, and this is it. I'm sorry, but I don't know what to tell you. I keep making up excuses for you, and in the end you keep lying to me."
I turned around and darted before she could talk me into being calm. I didn't want to be calm anymore. I wanted to wreck things and be reckless. I wanted to scream out into the sky, and relieve my stress by punching trees.
A broken friendship was indeed worse than a broken relationship.
I ran and ran, afraid that if I stopped, my demons would catch up to me and pull me down with them. The wind stung my eyes, and whipped into my wild untamed hair.
And then my foot caught unto a branch. I tripped really hard and kept rolling down a small hill. I landed on my back, staring up into the sky in shock and pain. I laughed a little at myself.
"Woah! Are you alright?" A man's face appeared in front of me. He was a brunette with dark forest green eyes. Freckles littered his tan face, and a strong body was attached to his head.
"U-uh yeah." I stood up quickly and dusted myself off. When I stood up I ended up being closer to the man than I had anticipated. His green eyes shifted, as he scanned my body to make sure I was indeed alright.
I was staring at him a little bit longer than usual, and I know it was making him a bit uncomfortable. He smiled at me before introducing himself. "My name is Damien."
"D-damien? A-as in Alpha Damien?" I stuttered. Whenever I'm nervous, which doesn't happen often, I tend to stutter. A lot.
"Yes." He laughed, finding amusement in my facial expressions. "And what might your name be?"
I stopped to think for a second. What is my name? "Mackenzie, I think."
He laughed at me again, a smile so beautiful it hurt covered his handsome face. "You think?"
I awkwardly laughed with him. I've never encountered a man I was this attracted to. I tend to just mostly stick with dating girls. I've only dated one guy before, and that ended very badly.
"Where are you headed to in such a hurry." He asked me, but I knew he could see the unshed tears swimming in my eyes. I knew that he knew that I was sad.
"Oh um, I was just on my way back home." I lied. I didn't know where I was going.
"Let me walk you back. I'd feel better knowing that you got there safely."
"Sure." I pressed my lips together as if to stop myself from saying something either stupid or very sexual. When I like someone, I tell them straight up. There's no reason to beat around the bush. But for some reason, I was scared to act on my slight attraction to this man.
We walked together in silence. There was not a thing to be said.
When we got home, I turned to him awkwardly, not knowing what to say. I pressed my lips together and I finally said, "Thanks um, for walking me."
He smiled at me dashingly, flashing his pearly whites and his extremely deep dimples. "Don't thank me. It was the polite thing to do."
"Right."
He stuck his hand out for me to grab, "It was very nice to meet you Mackenzie."
I grabbed his hand, and a jolt shot up through my arm. I was struck speechless again. Damien smirked at me before kissing the back of my hand seductively.
I quickly pulled my hand away, my cheeks burning red. My eyes were wide as I stood there openly gaping at this magnificent human being.
"Okay well, it was nice meeting you. Okay gotta go bye!" I yelled before running inside my house and slamming my door shut. I turned all the locks on my door, and my hand shot up to my chest as I almost hyperventilated in my living room.
Was he my mate? No, that couldn't be possible. It just couldn't be possible. Why would the moon goddess do this to me? Especially since I already have a mate.

Would you be upset if you found out your best friend found her significant other but didn't tell you? Would you be upset to find out that your best friend's significant other was your brother?
I'm just curious as to whether you think Mackenzie was being dramatic, or if you believe she was angry out of good reason? Please feel free to let me know for future reference.
