Summary: There are unexpected consequences when Laszlo seeks a new human familiar...
Part CX...
Wherein great events do indeed happen in the Shadows...Laszlo Cravensworth to the film crew a bit later.
A few minutes earlier, in the fabulous basement of the incredible now Cravensworth/ Relentless estate...After Laszlo had followed Jan/Samarta at her request. To...Umm...See something in the basement...?
Laszlo and Jan/ Rita /Samarta in passionate embrace in basement on the Varna battlefield diorama. Rolling on said diorama. Hmmn ...Laszlo, raising head eyes a small figure of a longbowman standing in miniature on the field of battle.
Could swear he's got that bow trained on me, Laszlo thought.
"So, you're really leaving?" Samarta eyes him. As she sits up, brushing briskly.
"Afraid so, can't be helped." He notes. "Van Helsing has made us his and his people's target. Have to vamoose, at least for a time, much as we hate to leave this place and our girls."
"Well, that's a shame. Though I really am married, fun as this was." She notes. "Human, but not my cow." to his look.
Well, that explains the lack of a wedding invite, he thinks. Though I hope she doesn't think Nadja and I are the sort who frown on...Well, probably well she didn't mention it to Nadja, my dear girl's just a bit old-fashioned on such topics as mixed marriages.
"To a human? And not a cow? Seriously?" He asked, intrigued.
"He's very sweet in his way. I needed the cover, you really get hit on in my business, even with modern harassment laws. And you can't just kill every schmuck you run into in my line. But he really is a great guy." fond smile. "It's a bit hard on him, I'm so rarely at home." Slight sigh. "Always out on assignments."
"For the historical society?" He eyed her.
"Oh no, I do some freelance journalism, too."
"Oh, really?" Laszlo, genuine interest. "Tales of crime and crime and passion and crime and passion and the occasional perversity?"
"More city and state politics." She notes. "Though I'm just getting back in the game after a little break."
"I see. That little break wouldn't have been with Simon Devious?" He eyed her.
Cut to sofa later, Laszlo, wry grin.
"Not quite the genius deduction, I'd thought I spotted her in Simon's club at our famous battle of the witch's hat. And just a bit too much of a coincidence then she appeared on our doorstep, literally. But no point in passing up a great shag for a confrontation one can have afterwards."
Return to scene...
"Laszlo..." she sighs. "Ok, I was watching you guys for Simon here. He has a few things on me and I had a few dry reporting years so a side gig came in handy , plus he knows people and got me a couple of freelance assignments. Though I really was on the historical committee, have been for ninety-one years, as my mother and me. Useful contacts for digging up facts."
"But I'm not helping him anymore." Smile. "In fact..."
"Indeed. That slight whiff of human befouls you." He blinks. "Good demon lord, you're with Van Helsing's and Dracula's people and associated undead types."
"In a way, yeah..."she nods.
"So, is this an ambush? Complete with an attempt to overwhelm me erotically?" Careful, if lewd, stare. Bat command at the ready...
