Chapter 1: There's No Alcohol at School Parties... Bummer...
(POV: Pepper)
I really don't want to be here right now...Whoever I mean why even sponsor a school mixer? Why the heck did I even come here?
Oh yeah, Blake wanted me to come, and then he bailed on me to go bang his girlfriend in the parking lot. Thanks, friend!
"Hey babe, wanna go dance?" a smooth, male voice asks. I look up and spt a young college student, probably a freshman, looking down at me.
"Beat it," I growled at him. He complies, walking away. I watch him go up to another girl, and he takes her hand as they walk over to the dance hall.
You know? If I didn't want to get hit on by guys all night, I really shouldn't have worn this dress.
The black fabric fit snugly to my curves, hugging my figure. It was the only dress I owned at the time though.
Illinois State University likes to hold a mixer every year for new students to get to know each other, and for older students to get to know some of the newbies so they could help them out. Nearly everyone as talking with someone else in here, but I was rather alone.
Not that I really mind of course, it's always been like this for me.
"Hey Pepper, glad you could make it," I heard another male voice. I turned around to see Blake, with his girlfriend in his arm. He was smiling, and his shirt collar a out.
"Well I see you had fun," I smirked at him. "You're shirt collar is still popped up.
"Oh jeez," he grunted, fixing it. I laughed a bit. "Are you planning to ask some girl to dance tonight? You should, there are plenty of pretty girls here."
"Probably not, I'm thinking of leaving soon, this mixer is boring," I told him.
"Aww are you really going to leave me?" he puppy dog faced me, lip quivering. Damnit Blake!
"You shouldn't leave, it's good to get to know some people," Blake's girlfriend, Adriana, smiled.
"Not like I'm going to hang out with these people. I have to focus on schoolwork," I muttered, taking a sip of my lemonade.
"Alright Pepper. Adriana and I are going to go dance for a bit, if you stay another couple hours, we'll all ditch this mixer and go to iHop, my treat," my friend stated.
I still wanted to leave, but I didn't have any food back at my apartment yet, and I was probably going to be hungry tonight. I couldn't pass up the offer of free food. "Okay, you two go have fun now," I sighed, and pushed them away.
Blake was one of my very few friends I had here at the college. We had met after my break up with Meredith. When I was dating Meredith, it as like no one else mattered to me, so my eyes sort of opened up after we broke up. Blake is sort of the opposite of me. He's popular, funny, and a nice guy, while I'm a foul-tempered loner with no sense of humor. Or that's what the popular kids at my high school described me as.
Somehow, Blake actually managed to befriend me though, turns out we had quite a bit in common, since we had the same major and all. I don't spend a lot of time with him, but he is a good friend.
He and Adriana started dating a few weeks before school ended last semester, so naturally we got to know each other and become friends as well. I maybe have a couple other acquaintances, but besides them I really don't know anyone here.
This is going to be another boring couple hours. I know I can go join my friends on the dance floor, but I'm just not up to it right now. I don't want to intrude on their time, but I don't want to be dancing alone.
