Violet collapsed onto the sand and her lip began to quiver. She just wanted Ben.
She wanted his arms around her. She wanted to be engulfed in his scent. She wanted to hear his heart beat as she wrapped her arms around him.
A tear traced down her cheek as thoughts of Ben danced through her mind.
"Violet?" His voice, vaguely familiar, interrupted her thoughts.
"Ben?" She looked around her and down the stretch of beach stood Ben. She let out a small sob as she ran to him, jumping into his arms and wrapping her legs around his torso.
"Why did you leave?" She mumbled into the crook of his neck.
"I figured I had to get here before you did and I didn't want to risk being caught either." The sound of his voice was enough to calm Violet.
Ben slowly traced circles onto Vi's back as he stood holding her on the beach. The crash of the waves sounding far away as he focused on the girl wrapped around him. The girl that used to hate him and the girl that for some reason trusted him. The girl that was saving his life. And somehow, the girl he barely knew.
"You scared me." Violet whispered.
Shifting Violets weight onto one arm, he used one hand to delicately move her chin so he could see her face; which was tear stained.
Ben didn't apologize in words but connected their lips and somehow Violet knew he was sorry and meant no harm.
"I didn't mean to scare you," Ben whispered into Violet's ear; the contact making her shiver.
She placed her delicate hand on the side of his cheek and kissed him once again as if to say It's okay.
And this time she actually believed it was.
