Violet and Ben stayed, suffocated in the small closet for God knows how long, before Violet decided it was a good time to exit.
"Is th-" Ben started but Violet cut him off.
"Please, stay away from me." Violet whispered backing away.
Ben sighed loudly and slammed his fists into the wall. "Dammit!"
Ben picked up the plates from dinner and found a dishwasher to put them in and wandered around the small one story house.
Ben didn't remember much from his middle school days but he did remember that placing a soldier in someone else's house, is illegal. So, not only did Ben feel like crap because this young girl had to take care of him, but she was also terrified of him.
Ben didn't know why he lashed out at her those times. Sure he didn't want to be there, but Violet definitely didn't want him either, so that was no excuse.
Ben sighed and glanced at his filthy hands. Covered in Violet's blood, dry, and cracked.
He found the bathroom at the end of the small hallway and turned on the sink.
He scrubbed furiously at his skin until the blood was washed away, not a single trace of it.
He dried his hands on his jeans as he turned to leave a small body bumped into his.
A small sigh escaped his lips as he saw Violet had fallen backwards on the floor. He extended his hand to help her up, but Violet flinched.
"I'm not going to hurt you." He whispered.
Violet wouldn't make eye contact with Ben as she whispered a 'Thank you' and went back into her room, whatever she was going to do; forgotten.
Ben walked back into the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror.
His hair was disheveled as usual, and he had a large scratch beside his nose from running into something on the way to Violet's house. Ben's six foot stature loomed over Violets shorter one.
No wonder she was scared of him.
