Lastly, I'd like to dedicate this chapter to everyone out there still reading it. I know that may sound cheesy... but I really want you all to know that appreciate you all. I had done my time. After another day in the hospital, I was finally able to leave.
With a thin piece of paper in hand, detailing the do's and don'ts of a concussion, I gleefully walk out of the main lobby and into the cool air of November.
"Deary, you sure you aren't cold? I can steal a jacket from the lost and found for you." Nurse Sheffield states, leading me towards her car.
"I'm sure, I promise. It's nice to be outside again." I smile up at the sky.
Nurse Sheffield snickers. "You act like you've been imprisoned for months."
"Feels like it." I mutter and she laughs loudly in response.
Once we clamber into her car, the ride to my house is filled with light chatter. Nurse Sheffield makes it a point to continuously drone on about if I need help or start experiencing unusual pain to call her. I roll my eyes, my head is in constant pain, shouldn't that be unusual?
But no, I can't say that. Not if I want a fourth lecture on what a concussion is and how it will affect my daily activities. No thank you; I'm still trying to wrap my head around limited phone, computer, and telly time. Although, I guess that'll force me to go outside more. Though, I'm not supposed to engage in any strenuous activities either...
I sigh inwardly, ignoring yet another round of "seriously, call me if you need me's" and glare out the window.
It's not long before we pull into my driveway. "Thanks Deb," I say, stepping out of the vehicle, "and yes, before you ask, I promise I'll contact you if I need to."
Nurse Sheffield smiles and winks before backing away, her car quickly zooming into the distance.
I sigh, relieved to be alone; truly and utterly alone. I expect to feel content but I don't. I feel... morose.
