His lips were chapped and cracking. Breathing shallow as his shaky hand grasped onto his shirt, the shirt that was stuck to his clammy moist skin.
Jason was walking back to his room from the kitchen when he heard laboured breathing coming from Dicks room.
"Dickwad? You good in there?"
Immediately the sound stopped and a small.
"Yeah..."
Was heard from the room. This however didn't convince Jason.
"I'm coming in."
Jason twisted the handle and pushed open the door.
His eyes landed on his older brother who was hugging himself, knees pressed tightly to his chest.
Jason's usual gruff expression softened as he got closer to the bed.
"What's wrong Dickie bird?"
Jason questions.
Dick looks up, as he forcefully calms his breathing.
"It was nothing..."
Jason scoffs.
"Yeah right, it was nothing my ass"
Jason sighs.
"You can talk to me, Dick. About anything."
After a bit more convincing and calming Dicks breathing, he gives in.
"Alright...it's really stupid.."
Jason just raises an eyebrow, inviting Dick to keep talking.
"Y-you've heard of the Court of Owls, right?"
Jason nods, confused.
"They're just a myth though?"
Dick shakes his head,
"No. They're very much real."
Jason nods softly.
"Ok...how does this relate?"
Dick takes a deep breath.
"I was meant to be a Talon, uhm Haley's Circus was a breeding ground for the Court of Owls..."
Jason is just, still.
"Dickwad, why didn't you say anything?"
"I didn't want to be a burden...and anyway it was so long ago."
Jason shakes his head.
"That means shit to me, Dick. So what if it was almost 20 years ago, it's something that has stayed with you all these years and that alone makes it more than nothing important."
Dicks eyes start to water.
Jason shifts closer to the side of the bed, a hand on Dick's arm.
"Hey... there's more to it, isn't there?"
Dick loves Jason but damn his ability to see right through him.
"Uhm...my grandfather was a talon and it's said I was to be the greatest talon of all time. The Grey son, shit name I know."
Jason let's out an amused chuckle.
"And I didn't know, why?"
"I didn't think it was important."
Jason sighs.
"You're impossible. How many times do I have to tell you, nothing about you is unimportant."
This validation hits Dick like a sack of bricks.
"Might be forever."
"I've got time."

~*That next morning*~

The batboys were all at the manor, Tim drinking coffee, Damian petting one of his many pets that littered the manor and Jason who was cleaning his helmet.
The first batboy then arrives, though usually Dick was more...dressed up?
Today he was just in joggers and a hoodie, eye bags evident.
*He didn't go back to sleep...*
Jason thinks as he glances up.
"Morning Richard."
Damian calls from his spot on the sofa.
"Morning Dami..."
Dick replies, forcing a smile as his voice betrays him and reveals how tired he is.
"What's wrong? You look awful."
Dick sighs, he knows Damian is just bad at showing how he cares but, also he doesn't want to worry his brothers. They're all younger than him and they shouldn't have to deal with his issues as well as their own.
"I'm ok Dami, really just couldn't sleep."
Tim sets down his coffee as Dick takes a seat in the large, plush chair opposite the sofa.
"The demon is right, what's the matter?"
Dick sighs knowing he's been caught out. As Jason then puts his helmet down.
"Remember what I said, nothing is unimportant if it's bothering you."
The two younger boys share a glance as Jason then asks.
"Is it about last night and the Court of Owls?"
Dick then nods.
"Partly."
Damian raises an eyebrow, which Tim mimics.
"Care to share?"
Sighing, Dick then explains to them what he told Jason.
"Basically, the Court of Owls is real and, Haley's Circus was a breeding ground for Talons, my grandfather was a Talon, and due to a prophecy I was meant to he the best or greatest Talon."
Jason scoffs.
"The Gray-son."
Dick laughs softly.
"Oh shush, you named yourself after your helmet!"
Tim and Damian just shared a look.
"So...how has this affected you? Cause it has."
Damian nods.
"I must agree with Drake."
Dick then admits.
"I've been having nightmares about if I was a Talon..."
The 3 boys' gazes soften.
"Dick...why didn't you tell us?"
"I..I didn't want to burden you all, I'm a grown adult, and you're all my younger siblings I shouldn't push all my stresses onto you, I should be able to handle it all."
Jason scoffs, though it's not mockingly it's more concerned.
"Dickie. You've done more than enough for all of us, even, Cass, Steph and Duke. Fuck, you even try to see the very little good in Bruce. And about being the oldest? Ok? You still have issues and a lot of unpacked trauma, it's ok to rely on others, especially your brothers."
The other boys nod.
"Yeah, we're family Dick, we'll listen to you no matter what it's about."
Damian nods.
"Yes, Richard thought as long as it's not about West or your love for cereal."
Dick chuckles softly.
"Thank you, you three.."

"So...Dickie?"
Dick hums.
"Hm? Yeah little wing?"
"Do you have anything to share with the group?"
Tim asks as Steph, Cass and Duke are now present and have been caught up.
"Like what?"
The others all think before Steph thinks.
"Oh! What about what happened when you went undercover for that Spyral place? You never said a lot about it."
After all of them agree and look to Dick expectantly, he caves.
"Alright then."
They all get comfy, on the floor cushions and the sofa as Dick sits in the chair and starts.
