A snap.
The gasps.
The thud.
The splat.
That's all little Richard Grayson heard as he watched his beloved parents drop.
A cut rope? a loosened clasp?
Who knew.
All he knew was he was now an orphan and he was now alone. The people who had raised, and loved him unconditionally.
Dead.
All within such a short amount of time. Young Richard's life had been ruined. Taken and flipped inside out for the world to see.

Now his younger brothers took his place.
They had to watch their golden brother, the big brother they knew would do anything to keep them safe. They had to watch him fall. They heard the splat, the thud, they heard the groan then the silence.
Dick had fallen, well, he had been pushed off of a rooftop, landed upon the concrete.
Fast and hard.
He was numb.
He couldn't see, feel.
But he could hear.
He heard the pleas from his siblings, Tim, Damian, Jason, and Duke, all stood around him begging him to speak.
But he couldn't.
"Dickie, please any sign."
"Come on Dickwad, wake up."
"Grayson...get up, please."
"Come on Dick, you gotta get up, please get up."
His heart ached more that his heavy limbs, the pins and needle like feeling worse than any pain, he thought possible.
He felt it all over, it invaded his senses, as it coated his entire body, his legs, arms, torso, everything tingled.
And all he could do to hopefully ease his brothers minds was twitch a finger, he put all his effort into moving his little finger, he hoped they could see that he was alive, and he didn't plan on leaving them anytime soon, if he had a choice. Even through a tiny gesture, he was determined to prove how far he would go to be there for his brothers, no way would he leave them, knowing they still needed him, and he planned to ensure they understood that too. Luckily the ever observant Tim did notice this movement,
"He's moving! He moved his finger!"
The others are immediately slightly relieved,
"Dickie? Can you hear us? Do that again if you can."
Jason is passed his usual gruff, careless act. He is scared.
Hes never seen his older brother so...dead looking.
Just then Dick's finger does move again, indicating he is indeed alive, but not so well.
"Ok good, stay awake for me yeah? Can you see us?"
Dick thinks about how he'll indicate it and then, he taps.
'-. ---'
At first they're confused, then Duke gets it.
"He's using morse code, he just said 'no'."
Jason nods and keeps talking to Dick, trying to ensure he stays awake.

They continue to 'talk' with him until Bruce arrives with the batmobile, since Damian, who had been quiet since they found out Grayson would live...for now, had called his father to come get them.
When Bruce arrives and sees his eldest limp in Jason's arms as his sons approach the vehicle, his heart breaks.
He sees the little boy he fostered all those years ago, the one that made him better. The one he believes to be better than batman, the boy who turned Bruce Wayne from a heartless and cold playboy, into a caring and trying father.
That boy, the one he loved so much and continues to, no matter how many times they fall out, they always come back together.
His original partner in crime fighting, helpless.

Jason sits in the backseat, Dick's head on his lap to hopefully keep him awake as he speaks to the older man, Tim, Duke and Damian all climb into the car as well, and Bruce drives carefully...but fast, determined to get his son to the hospital as quick as he possibly could.

Will he make it in time?
Or will he be too late?
Again.

Ahhhh omg
I started this on the 1st of Jan...its the 1st of July rn 😭
I am so sorry its been so long!!
And I still have all those drafts, I promise I am coming back, I have just been doing my first year of A Levels and so I was focused on that!
Anyway, hope you enjoyed and I'll see you all in a part two!
