1.) What are the particular factors that make a good "persuasive" story?
A good persuasive story always follows technicals as well as aesthetics. Technically, writers should learn the Elements of a Short Story, tone, diction, grammar and word usage. Aesthetics-wise, writers should be true to the art of storytelling--that is to write a story that is as close to reality as possible but, as fresh as the first time it has been told. Perspectives are interesting, and captivating a certain perspective of a certain character in a very convincing, specific and universal tone will make it persuasive.
2.) For those interested in exploring subjects or themes that are not inclined to their own beliefs and perceptions, where should they start and what are the important things to consider when writing about a sensitive topic?
I suggest taking off their beliefs for a while and put on these ideas for a little spin. I like roleplaying (in my head) and that's where the fun happens. There are also a lot of material around like news, songs and movies that will probably have tackled that theme. Don't confine yourself to your own perspective. Put on different minds and hearts for a change.
3.) How does writing change the writer and how does reading change the reader?
It depends from writer to writer. But definitely, writing causes change from within that will initiate change on the outside. It is constantly reinventing yourself and sometimes, if you don't have a solid ground of who you truly are, you will end up more confused than ever. However, writing also gives ideas for the reader to ponder on or take action with. It is a private form of universal compassionate communicationamong individuals. So, most definitely, a writer's views may affect a reader's mindset and consequently, his behavior and choices. But only when the reader is entirely open to it.
