"CREATIVITY: CAPTURING THE PERFECT IMAGERY AND AN INTRODUCTION TO THE UNKNOWN"

Creativity is one of the most important facets of the paradigm of what makes an excellent storyteller--- in a world full of ideas, an excellent writer is someone who can stand out among the rest--- producing something out of what is mundane to a fresh obra maestra. If the world is a huge plain white canvas, would you dare to be that little black dot?

We are down to our third round, and of course expect that things are not going to be easier. To the remaining top 8 contenders, we are daring you to be black dots of your own canvases.

For this round, there are two important requirements that we have to see in your entries:

1.) CAPTURING THE PERFECT IMAGERY. Setting could heavily drive your story. With the perfect imagery, you'll be giving your readers a vivid picture of the kind period and place your story is in, making them part of your created world. With @axelwrites winning the 3rd Mini-Challenge Round, one of his incentives is a special power of being able to choose the setting that is REQUIRED upong writing your entries.

"Setting: Philippines, 2026

World War III just ended. Philippines is almost a wasteland. Many died from the aftermath of an atomic warfare. People are fighting over the scarce resources." - axelwrites

In your story, we have to see this setting... but as the organizers are complete sadists, we are adding an extra challenge for you: visual and auditory descriptions in a LITERAL SENSE to capture the imagery of the setting IS NOT ALLOWED. You may use metaphors using visual and auditory adjectives, but if the descriptions is objective to what the senses of sight and hearing could perceive, that is no longer allowed. You may only incorporate the sense of smell and sense of touch in perceiving your story with the desired setting.

What is allowed: "The hills have eyes, and it can see the long rivers." (This is allowed because hills do not have eyes and the sense of sight).

What is NOT allowed: "I can see the long rivers from atop the hill." (This is not allowed because it is objective to the sense of sight of the narrator).

2.) INTRODUCTION TO THE UNKNOWN. We also expect you, top 8, to inform something that is not well-known to the majority. May it be an unknown illness or unknown species, as long as it is not heavily portrayed in the media, you can use it to make the readers have a glimpse of what is it all about.

This round is still a FREESTYLE ROUND. You may choose a particular genre that you think would suit your plot the best. You are also free to choose whichever point of view you'll be writing your story in.

8. Criteria:

I. FORM - 30%

This is the structural part of the oneshot---the "bones" upon which the rest hangs.  It is essential to support the story so form is worth 30 points as good form is expected.  This allows more points for the subjective judging areas.

- GRAMMAR AND CRAFTSMANSHIP (10) (spelling, punctuation, use of proper words, etc.): This includes reasonable paragraphing and creative word use of any sort. The contestants are urged to proofread their works.

- ORGANIZATION (10): Organization of a oneshot story means the pattern of ideas expressed by the contestant, most usually top to bottom in a oneshot of limited length.

- ADHERENCE OF REQUIREMENTS (10): The expected elements stated in the guidelines should be evident in the entry.

II. CONTENT - 50%

This is the essential part of the oneshot story. It must include the main and supporting ideas of the writer on the theme of this round's contest.  This part is worth 50 points because the two components cover the substance of the work.

- MAIN IDEAS (25): It is essential that the theme of the contest is clearly addressed.

- SUPPORTING IDEAS (25): The main ideas presented must be thoroughly discussed. The contestant can cite examples, observations, studies, experience, and activities in support of the main ideas of the oneshot.

III. IMPRESSION - 20%

This part is for the judge's reaction. It is worth 20 points and gives latitude to the variety of opinions reflected in the judges.

- PROGNOSIS (5): The judges must have the impression that the piece highlights the essence of the contest theme.

- PERSONAL REACTION (15): This is the place for the judge's personal opinion. Were you convinced? Did you love it? Did you hate it? Assess the impact of the story to you. This is the only category in which a judge may show his/her subjective feelings about the oneshot.

TOTAL: 100%
