Camila's Point of View
Something felt off. Like a presence.
That eerie sensation of being watched prickled at my skin, dragging me from the fragile state of sleep I had fallen into.
My lashes fluttered open, and as my vision adjusted, two familiar faces came into focus—Kira and Ava, hovering over me like a pair of nosy ghosts.
I yelped, jerking upright. "What the hell?"
Kira and Ava flinched back but didn't even try to look guilty.
Instead, they burst into laughter, Kira clutching her stomach like she had just witnessed the funniest thing in the world.
"You freaks," I growled, throwing my pillow at them.
Ava caught it effortlessly, grinning.
"Evening, moonshine." Kira let out an excited squeal and threw herself at me, wrapping me in a tight hug.
"Moonshine?" Ava echoed, her face twisting in mock disgust.
Kira, completely ignoring her, only hugged me tighter—which I was silently grateful for. I wasn't in the mood for their usual playful bickering.
"Kira," I mumbled against her shoulder, struggling for air. "I can't breathe."
She immediately loosened her grip, pulling back with a sheepish smile.
"Oops. Got carried away."
"You were watching me sleep?" I accused, still breathless from the scare.
Kira smirked. "You snore."
I glared at her. "I do not."
"You kind of do," Ava teased, flipping her long hair over her shoulder. "It's cute. Like a sad kitten purring."
I groaned, throwing myself back against the pillows, exhaustion creeping back in.
My eyes stung, heavy with all the sleep I had forced on myself to avoid thinking about him. But now that I was awake, there was no escaping it.
Luciano. His name clawed at the edges of my mind, a presence I couldn't shake.
Ava sat cross-legged on the bed, chin resting in her palm. "You've been out for hours. We were starting to think you died."
"Thanks for the concern," I said dryly. My head ached, exhaustion clinging to me like a second skin.
Ava's smile softened. "You feeling okay?"
"I'm fine," I said too quickly, sitting up and rubbing my face.
Kira studied me, sharp as ever. "You sure?"
"Yes, Kira," I snapped.
She held up her hands in surrender but didn't look convinced. I sighed, forcing my shoulders to relax.
"Sorry," I muttered.
"It's okay," she said quietly.
Silence stretched between us, and I hated it. I didn't want them to get a hint of what was happening.
Kira suddenly perked up, her tone brightening.
"So, guess what? I got a job!" She cheered.
"I still wonder how you even got the job," Ava muttered under her breath.
Kira's head snapped toward her, eyes narrowing in a sharp glare. But just as quickly as the scowl appeared, it vanished, replaced by a bright, almost smug grin as she turned back to me.
