After spending nearly a month in the hospital, I was finally going home.
"Cammie," my mom's soft voice drew my attention. I turned toward the doorway to find her walking in with a warm smile.
"Mom," I smiled faintly as she came over to sit beside me.
"How are you feeling?" she asked gently, brushing a hand through my hair.
"I'm feeling better, Mom. But my shoulder still aches a little sometimes." Her eyes welled with tears, and I quickly reached out, cupping her cheek.
"Please don't cry," I whispered.
She took my wrist, holding it as she sobbed quietly.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all that pain. I wish I could've done something."
I offered her a small smile and wiped away her tears.
"Mom, I knew what I was signing up for when I chose to be with Luciano. I know my life will always be at risk as long as we're together. But I'm ready to fight through every obstacle."
She smiled through her tears, kissed my forehead, and wrapped her arms around me.
I melted into her embrace, savoring the comfort only a mother could provide.
"Gem, we can go now," Luciano's voice interrupted our moment. He stepped in, looking as impatient as ever.
"Finally," I muttered with an exaggerated eye roll as he approached to help me.
We made a quick stop at the pharmacy so he could pick up my medications, then headed home.
The moment his mansion came into view, a warm feeling blossomed in my chest. Despite everything, this place had become my new home.
Luciano kept one arm firmly around my waist, guiding me inside while Mom carried my things.
The delicious scent of various meals filled the air, and my stomach growled in anticipation. No more cold porridge or bland hospital vegetables—thank God.
"Welcome back, *tesoro*," Russo called out, descending the stairs with a bright smile.
He came over and pulled me into a gentle hug.
"Thank you," I whispered, returning the smile.
"You must be starving. Let's head to the dining room," Mom urged.
As we stepped into the dining room, I was greeted by rows of delicious-looking dishes and a beaming Chef Desmond, proudly standing beside his creations.
"Welcome back, Cami....I mean, ma'am," Damon said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck when he noticed Luciano watching. I couldn't help but laugh and shake my head.
"Look who's back! My favorite bitch," Kira shouted dramatically before throwing herself at me with a tight hug that nearly knocked the wind out of me.
