''Who's my favorite little nephew? That's right, you are, you're my favorite little nephew and I'm your favorite Auntie, right?'' Carmen cooed, earning a gargled giggle from Zayden in response, coupled by a toothless grin that seemed to warm all hearts, but right at that very moment, it caused my heart to constrict and I brought my hand up to my mouth and chewed on my thumb nail—a poor habit I had picked up when I became a worry wart over Zayden or Cloud.
''You know, maybe another night.'' I spoke up, walking around the couch and sat down next to Carmen, ignoring her raised eyebrow while I took Zayden back into my arms and smiled at my little man who in return gave me a scrunched up smile with his little tongue poking out.
''Oh no, don't even think about it, Terrance.''
''But—''
''But nothing, Zee will be fine with me for the night and we'll have ourselves a sleepover while you and Cloud go off alone for date night. You guys haven't been on a romantic date in months—didn't even get a proper honeymoon after the wedding.''
I flushed and ignored her gaze, because while Cloud and I didn't get a proper honeymoon away—we did get to consummate our marriage...over and over and well, over that night after our wedding.
''We didn't need a honeymoon then.'' I muttered.
''Well, you and Cloud need a date night now and don't even try to protest,'' She warned, holding up a finger when I opened my mouth and with a sigh, I closed it and my pressed my lips into a hard line. ''Plus, when's the last time you and Cloud even got any action without Zayden interrupting?''
I blinked, glancing at Zayden who began bending his knees in small, grounded jumps that seemed to amuse him. ''A while, I guess...''
Which was the truth.
The night we had consummated our marriage was really the last time Cloud and I spent alone time together, but in our defense, we were busy with our lives. Cloud spent a good portion of his time in the basement painting or back at the high school helping out Mrs. Burton with her art class and when he wasn't painting, he was doing repairs around the house or spending time with Zayden and I because where I went, so did Zayden.
And me? I had decided on taking some online college courses and even agreed on yoga classes with Winnow and Starr on Sunday afternoons while either my mom, Carmen or Gennifer took care of Zayden for an hour (the longest I ever left him with someone else) and the rest of my days were obviously spent with Zayden and I didn't mind one bit because I loved my little man.
''See, a while is clearly to long, and this is where I come bearing a gift.'' She said, catching my attention and I watched as she pulled a plastic card out of her pocket and held it up to my face. I frowned, reading over the card and flushed when I realized it was a key card to a hotel suite.
''Carmen...''
''Ah, just say thank you.''
''Thank you for what?'' Cloud's voice drifted into the living room and I turned around, still amazed on how I had gotten this beautiful man to fall in love with me.
His raven hair was disheveled with few streaks of dried paint from him repeatedly running his fingers through but that didn't stop him from being any less attractive. He wore his painting clothes which wasn't uncommon to see him in, considering it was his hobby and occupation but what amused me was the streak of orange paint that lined his forehead and chin and he still managed to look good.
