Chapter Forty- Four - Cloud StrykerCarmen's face was void of emotion as she stood her ground, her arms stretched out in front of her with the gun nestled in between her hands, the barrel of the gun pointing to where Benji was once leveled on his knees but now laid lifeless on the ground. I blinked my eyes a few times, making sure what had played out in front of me just happened and after a moment of wrapping my head around it—I dropped an unconscious Joyce to the ground.
''...Is Terrance okay?'' Carmen finally spoke, tearing her eyes away from Benji's body.
I felt like a bucket of bricks was thrown at me at the mention of Terrance and I carelessly stepped over Joyce and hurried to his side, cupping his face in my hands. His face was blotched with red from crying and I shushed him, reaching over him to the side table to grab the phone, dialing 911. I kept my focus on Terrance, urging him to stay awake which he responded with a few gurgled whimpers but I instantly picked up on what he wanted and tore my gaze away from his face to his belly, clenching the phone held to my ear as I spoke to the person on the other end.
Joyce had began the incision—it was deep and blood dribbled from the cut but thankfully it wasn't terribly long. But I was still enraged and wanted to go over to where Joyce laid and finished what I started—strangling her to death instead of unconsciousness. After the lady on the phone assured me that police and paramedics were on their way—I hung up the phone.
''It's okay, Terrance.'' I told him, hating that tears kept coming from his tear ducts and leaked down his flushed cheeks and temples. He kept trying to talk but whatever Joyce had managed to give him was overpowering his body and it only enhanced his level of fear and he probably felt powerless and it tore at my heartstrings.
A shaky breath reminded me that Carmen was still in the room and I snapped my head up, watching her lower her arms down with the gun still in hands but her hazel eyes were on me.
''I had to, Cloud.'' She said.
''It was self-defense.'' I agreed and she nodded, letting the gun fall from her hands to the ground before stepping over Benji's body and came over to Terrance's side, stroking back his damp fringe.
''I wish I could have used self-defense on the crazy bitch on the ground over there too.'' Carmen grumbled, nodding her head in the direction of Joyce and I really couldn't agree with her more but I didn't voice my words out loud—I didn't want to give Joyce another thought.
While we waited for the authorities, Carmen and I had managed to keep Terrance awake and calmed him down to some degree for when the police and paramedics finally did arrive and he was calm enough to allow the male and female paramedic to check him over—even though they were trying and failing not to gape at his exposed extremely pregnant stomach.
I stayed by his side behind the couch to give the paramedics room but kept his limp hand in mine, answering a few of the officers questions while Carmen did the same, explaining why she had to shoot Benji in self defense and telling them rather bluntly that she'd do it again if it meant that Benji Claire was leaving the world in a black body bag.
And another paramedic did bag up Benji's body and wheeled it out of the house—after calling for another ambulance.
A buff male officer had already came in and roused Joyce from her unconscious like state and she walked out the door in handcuffs and difficulty. She kicked and screamed at the male officer, calling out to me but the only response she got from me was my middle finger and then I bluntly ignored the rest of her pleas to come and save her, focusing my attention on Terrance who continued to gaze back up at me with shiny baby blue eyes.
