Chapter Five - Terrance Archibald''We're gonna be playing a good old game of Dodge-ball!'' Coach Samson hollered causing the gym to erupt into cheers of excitement and leaving me from nearly pissing my pants. ''Pick a side! Also, below the waist hits and keep it a clean match!''
I scoffed, below the waist he says, keep it clean he encourages.
That whole bogus sentence right there is code for aim higher than the waist and I want to see blood staining my gym floor. Eyeing the bright red balls that lined down the middle of the gym, I hurried to the left side along with the other cowering students. It was like the whole stereotypical game of Dodge-ball, all the uncool students to the left while the popular jocks went right hooting and hollering with glee.
''Alright ladies...'' Samson announced with a simple black whistle settled between his lips before he blew into it causing the echo of the sound to bounce off the gymnasium walls and pierce my eardrums.
The sound of battle cries and shoes pounding against the floor had my blood running cold and before I could even try to take a step forward, red balls were flying towards me in an instant. I yelped, scurrying out of the way, ducking and dodging those horrid rubber balls while trying not to trip over the few students laying on the ground in agony.
Most of the students on my team were now either running around our side like their heads were chopped off or trying to make it to the bench without receiving another hit while some were trying hide behind others which is what I was attempting to do.
''I'm not a human shield.'' Bernie grumbled, glancing over his shoulder with a glare while I coward behind his large figure with an innocent look which I hoped to soften him up but before my puppy powers could make any damage a red ball came out of nowhere and smacked him right in the side of his face.
I grimaced, giving him an apologetic look which he returned with a huff before stalking off the court, leaving me to realize I was the only player left on my side. Blood drained from my face, my eyes darting to the full curt right across from me with a bright red ball in each one of their hands and sadistic smirks plastering each of their lips.
Well, it's been a beautiful eighteen years—Oh who the hell was I kidding, I've never even got to see the world!
''Aim! Fire!'' A shout bellowed throughout the gym, my knees going weak before balls were flying towards me, smacking me from head to toe, leaving my body in utter agony while I collapsed to the floor to receive another ball to my face. I gasped, clutching my bloody nose that was drenching my hands in scarlet.
''Fucking loser.'' Gale chuckled, nudging James to agree with him as they both walked past me which I expected in annoyance as I shakily got up to my feet, still clutching my bloody nose in my hands before I hurried out of the gym.
I loathed sports and physical activity with a passion, it seemed as though I always ended up in the school infirmary. The nurse didn't even seem surprised to see me walking through her door because I was literally in here at least three times a week so Nina and I were on a first name basis unless she was using her serious tone she'd call me--
''Archibald.'' By my last name before sighing. ''Is this what I think it--''
''No, it was a good ol' game of Dodge-ball.'' I said with false enthusiasm, giving a nod of thanks when Nina passed me over some tissues. ''Is there anyway you could give me a week free from gym class?''
''Nope, unless it's a serious injury.'' Nina replied with an apologetic smile. ''Huh, you know as much as I enjoy your company...you come in here way to much.''
