•Chapter Twenty: A New Beginning•

Jack was nice enough to walk me home. By the time we got there, Eugene was waiting in my living room. I had completely forgotten I was going shopping with him!
"I don't remember giving you a key to my house." Anna is out with Merida and Punzie, and Martha isn't home. But somehow, Eugene found himself reclined on our couch.
Eugene grins. "You shouldn't let Anna hide the spare. I found it under that orange painted rock."
Of course that's where it was. Anna kept forgetting where it was, so I let her hide it.
"What are you doing here?" Jack asks. I didn't realize he had come in with me. Eugene seems to notice him for the first time too.
"Oh- he..." I think of something to say that isn't about the proposal.
"Why? Jealous?" Eugene smirks. Weird, I thought only Jack had a flawless smirk. Knowing these two, they probably practiced together at some point.
Jack's jaw clenches, but Eugene doesn't budge. Why did Eugene feel the need to say that? "E-Eugene needs my opinion for his date tonight." I try to keep my voice stable. "Sorry, I forgot about it."
"What have you two been up to all day?" Eugene quickly changes the subject, eyeing our drenched clothes.
"We were outside when it started raining," I explain. "Let me change really quick before we go."
"Take your time." Eugene says. Him and Jack continue talking as I walk up stairs like the best friends they are.
I quickly change into a fresh pair of shorts and teal flowy tank top. It takes me awhile to re-dry my hair and pull it back into a Dutch bun, so it's almost 3:00 by the time I head back downstairs.
"Ready to go?" I ask, interrupting their conversation about football.
Eugene and Jack both stand up. "Yeah."
"I guess I'll see you guys later. Have fun on your date, Eugene." Jack waves and walks out.
"Alright." Eugene stands up and runs his hand through his hair. "Let's get down to business."

We head out to the jewelry shop closest to home: Bryllup's Diamonds. They have all kinds of different rings; some have huge diamonds, some have small colored gems, and some are just plain gold or silver. One with a band of tiny diamonds, centered with two light blue gems and a bigger diamond catches my eye. It's beautiful, but not what I imagine Rapunzel having.
"So what do you have in mind?" Eugene asks, examining the rings.
All of the rings are stunning, but we have to find something romantic, cute, and something that would fit Rapunzel. Rapunzel would probably like something dazzling, but at the same time kind of simple. She lives with the idea that simple is beautiful. The ring has to be unique for sure.
"Just look around until you see one you like. You've been dating Punzie for a year; I think you can find something nice." I walk over to one of the glass boxes and start looking.
"Can I help you with something?" A guy walks out from the back and I suddenly realize the place was empty before. The guy's name tag says Phillip.
"No, we do not need help." Eugene barely acknowledges Phillip before returning to the rings.
"Eugene!" This guy is probably a genius when it comes to this stuff if he works here. I walk over and smile politely. "Sorry, don't mind him. We're looking for a wedding ring."
