One year later........

I sat by the masthead, looking out into the distant ocean, ocassionally sipping rum from a flask. A year had passed and there was still no sign of Mum and Dad. I didn't gove a shit if I die on this journey. I was going to look for them.

A year on the ship had also changed me, physically and emotionally. Back then, I was quite dainty for a pirate and weak looking but now, I was a tad bit more muscular, my jet black had grown out shaggily and I grew a few inches. I was even more sly and uncouth now. I used to be disgusted by the mannerisms of the pirates but now, I pretty much act like them. I drank rum, swore like a soldier, swordfight with the men for no reason and once, when I couldn't bear it anymore, I took out my sword and slashed the strings holding up my corset. It was a bit loose now and I was able to breathe. For once.

Whats more, the cabin boy, Lucas was now my best friend. We were always seen together. During chores, dinner, sometimes in the night swordfighting. As for Will....

Well, he became first mate and we just weren't so close anymore. He barely even talks to me now. Guess thats what happens when one sibling is in power and the other's not. You just drift.

'Whats on your mind lass?' A voice asked. I turned around to see Barbossa leaning against the mast, his usual craggly toothed smile on his face. I slid off the mast and greeted him.

'Evening Captain,' I muttered, saluting him. He laughed.

'Evening to you m'dear. Why are you up so late? You're not on watch duty tonight.' He asked. I bit my lip and shrugged.

'Still thinking bout your parents eh?' He asked. I nodded before taking out the only thing I had of them, a golden locket in the shape of a heart.

'That's pretty,' he commented.

'I'm worried. It's a been a year. Where's the Flying Dutchman? They're known for sailing these part of the waters. Why haven't we found them?' I asked.

'Takes time child. The waters usually take a year, maybe more to navigate around. We'll find them.'

'Do you think the curse is still in effect?' I asked sadly. 'I can't lose my parents again Barbossa. They're all I have. I can't wait another ten years if it really is still happening.'

A tear slid down my face. Barbossa did the most unexpected thing, he walked over, hugged me and pulled out a hankerchief from his coat to blow my nose. Barbossa, one of the most ruthless pirates, showing affecrion for a kid? That was a first.

'There, there. Now you listen to me. That curse is broken as much as Davy Jones is dead. We will find your parents. Now stop your crying. I much prefer my nasty feisty girl.' He joked. I smiled a bit. Just then, Lucas walked pass us and stopped.

'Um, am I interrupting.something?...' he asked uneasily, avoiding Barbossa's gaze. Barbossa chuckled.

'Nothin boy. And for Calypso's sake, look at me eyes when ye talk to me, boy. I ain't going to eat you. Take her back to her cabin eh? I gotta get Scrum on night watch, the bleedin pig. Probably singing sea shanties downstairs again.'

Barbossa trudged down the stairs, his wooden leg making clocking sounds as he walked. I walked back with Lucas in silence.

'You alright?' He asked, when we finally reached my cabin as he closed the door behind him.

'Yeah, just having..... my moments again.' I answered, taking off my pirate hat, letting loose most of my hair, which was in a nightmarish mess. I looked like a bloody siren.

He walked over and he hugged me.

'We'll find them,' he said simply. 'I'll make sure of it, by hell of high water.' I smiled a bit.

'Thanks.'

'Well, goodnight then.' He said, about to leave.

'Wait!' I cried. He stopped in his tracks. I shifted uncomfortably.

'Can you.... stay with me till i fall asleep?' I asked.

'Of course.' he replied, walking back to my bed and sat there, slightly rocking me and singing under his breath. My eyelids slowly drooped and soon, I fell asleep.

Lucas's POV

As she fell asleep, I tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear and gazed at her face. She looked really angelic when she slept. If only she were mine.

I gently slid out of her bed and exited the cabin, not wanting to wake her. As I closed the door, I felt a sudden twist in my wrist and was slammed onto a wall at knifepoint. I looked up at my attacker's face and was shocked to know who it was.

'First.... First mate Turner!' I gasped, sweating a bit. 'What bring you here?' Will sneered, his dirty golden hair gleaming slightly in the moonlight.

'What were you doing in my sister's cabin eh? Trying to sneak a peek on her?' He snarled, pointing the knife further to my face. I frowned. How dare he.

'I wouldn't dream of it. I respect Allegra. The Captain wanted me to bring her back to her cabin. That's all.'

'I'm warning you. Stay away from my sister. She deserves better than some bleedin slob like you.' Will spat. I laughed sarcastically.

'Better make sure Allegra doesn't hear that. She'd tell you it's none of your business, specially when you aren't much around her anymore.'

Will sheathed his knife and looked me dead in the eye.

'Take this as your first and last warning. If I ever see you make a move on my sister, you're gonna go back on land and just be another starving kid on the streets, with no one to help him.'

With that, he left, leaving me to think.
