Michael.
.
"Andd, open!" Mikey laughed, unmasking my eyes by taking away his hands from my face. I gasped instantly, taking in my surroundings as I realised he'd taken me to the roof of our apartment building. Only it didn't look like a plain old roof at all. He'd covered it in candles, and there was a picnic blanket heaving with plump cushions, alongside a bulging twine picnic basket.
.
I span around to find my boyfriend very smug and proud of what he'd quite clearly worked hard over.
"What's all this?" I asked, grinning like crazy and flinging my arms around him.
.
"What?" He hugged me back tighter. "Can't a guy watch the sunset with his gorgeous girlfriend?" He teased, taking my hand in his and leading me over to the blanket. The two of us sat down as he passed me a sandwich and a drink.
.
"Thank you, Mikey. This is amazing." I spoke truthfully, making myself more comfortable in the gathering of cushions. Inevitably the sun began to set and it was absolutely stunning. I snuggled into Michaels side as he wrapped a heavy arm around me and pulled me close.
.
He kissed my forehead carefully, mumbling a short, "It's because I love you." Causing my cheeks to flame, because despite hearing him say these things for the last four years, every day still felt like the first.
.
Shortly after this, he reached back into the basket and pulled out two fortune cookies. He inspected them, which was odd, because they were only fortune cookies, but I shrugged it off and accepted mine gladly.
.
"On three?" He asked the same question he always did when we ate fortune cookies, and I nodded and smiled happily.
.
"One." I began, noticing his hesitation.
He swallowed loudly and ran his hand through his hair.
.
"Two." He mumbled, suddenly more nervous than I'd ever known him. He looked as though he was about to break into a serious sweat as he declared, "Three!" Just a little over-exuberantly.
.
We cracked open the cookies, only instead of a fortune, a delicate diamond ring fell into my lap. All my words left me as he took the ring from me, shifting himself up onto one knee.
He shot me a scared smile as I grinned, in what I hoped was a reassuring way.
.
"(Y/N)." He stared deep into my eyes, his nerves slowly drifting away. "These past four years have been the best damn years of my life. I want to grow old with you, I want to wake up to your beautiful smile every day. I want to have a family with you. And for this to happen, I need you to be my wife." He took my hand in his. "So." He mumbled, swallowing heavily once more. "Will you marry me?"
.
I nodded rapidly. "Of course I will, you dumbass." I laughed at his terrified expression because of course I was going no to say yes, watching then as he sighed deeply in relief, his grin almost as wide as mine as he fitted the ring nicely on my finger, before crashing my lips with full force onto his.
.
Calum.
.
Opening my eyes, very carefully as I slowly came to, I quickly received the scare as my life when I saw Calum staring across at me, smiling like a lunatic.
.
I groaned as he laughed, slowly rubbing my tiered eyes.
"What time is it?" I mumbled, sitting up a little as Calum leant over and kissed my cheek softly.
.
He stared at me. He stared at me harder. "Oh my god." I grinned madly.
"It's Christmas!" I exclaimed, full of glee. He laughed at my late reaction. I didn't think twice before leaping up and scrambling out of bed, trying with all my might to pull him up too.
.
"Can we cuddle first?" He moaned clearly far more exhausted than myself.
He hadn't been sleeping right lately, I really hoped he was okay. He said he was nervous about going back on tour, but it was quite obvious this wasn't the case.
.
For just about the first time, I ignored his pouty face and shook my head.
"Nope." I pulled just hard enough to pull him up. "Come on, Cal. It's Christmas!" I smiled wide as he gave in, wrapping his arms around me and leaning in to press his lips to mine.
.
"Okay." He kissed my nose. "Breakfast or presents first?" He asked as if it was a difficult question for me to answer.
.
I took his hand in mine and began leading him down our stairs.
"Breakfast." I responded without a second thought. I loved giving presents and seeing other people's reactions, but when it came to receiving presents, I never knew what to do with myself. I turned extremely awkward and never knew the right thing to say. And to be quite honest, I just felt bad for taking it.
.
He pulled my hand into the lounge and shook his head. "Ha. Got you, trick question." He teased, prodding my side. "We're opening presents first." He announced. "And you're going to let me be excited to give you mine."
.
Rolling my eyes playfully, I followed him to our highly decorated tree. We had spent almost an entire day on decorating this room alone, and the tree took up most of that time. We played cheesy old Christmas songs and danced about, singing and laughing. We were both half asleep by the early evening, but that didn't matter because I knew he'd experienced just as much fun as me.

.
After we'd done what I had presumed to have been all of the gifts, Calum furrowed deep behind the tree before handing me one last, small, badly wrapped present. I eyed him up suspiciously, not happy at all that he had lied to me about the number of gifts he was getting because I had made sure I had given him at least one extra.
.
His whole face was glowing red as he rubbed the back of his neck, clearly nervous. I was about to ask him what the matter was when he shook his head and nodded to the gift cupped in my hands. "Don't worry about me, I just want to see you open this one." He explained, refusing to look elsewhere for a even a minute.
.
Sighing heavily, I began to unwrap the crinkly paper. Underneath the many layers of cello-tape, lay a little black velvet box. My stomach dropped as my first thought was that he'd brought me some expensive earrings or something that I'd never be able to afford.
.
But then, he took the box from my hand and pushed his weight onto one knee. This time every last organ inside of me dropped like a stone.
No way. There was just no way.
.
He pulled the box open, revealing a beautiful ring as I stared at his terrified face dumbfoundedly.
"Calum . . ." I whispered as he took my hand in his.
.
"I love you, (Y/N). And I don't know what else to tell you, other than just that. I had this whole speech planned out, and I've tried to do this a million ways in my head, but all I can tell you is that I love you, much more than I've ever loved anyone or anything. I want this." He gestured around us. "I want you and I, and amazing Christmas's every damn year. And our kids can help decorate the tree and sing and dance with us. We can finally get a dog, and I'll spoil all of them because you never let me spoil you."
.
I laughed, light headed with everything that was happening. I really couldn't believe how this could happen to someone like me. I really didn't deserve someone as amazing as Calum.
.
"Please, (Y/N)." He took the ring out of the box and pulled my hand a little closer. "Will you do me the honour of becoming Mrs Hood?"
.
He was grinning like a looney bin and I'm pretty sure my expression matched his perfectly. "I'd love nothing more." I nodded, swallowing back the happy tears as he slid the ring onto my finger and pulled me in for the deepest kiss of our lives.
