Rosalie's POV

Explosives could be heard being fired off in the distance, as my family and I ran away from the commotion that is slowly being left behind and hopefully forgotten.

I remember the first time my uncle, Jeffery, attacked my beloved home. He was uncaring that his own blood was in the very castle he was setting bombs off in. I vaguely remember my mother crying out for him to stop as my father fought his own brother to protect his family. In the end, my father and his guards convinced him to leave, but Jeffery wasn't done yet. He shouted out before he stormed out of the castle that he would be back and this time he was out for blood and would stop at nothing to ruin our family.

"Rosalie, this is no time for you to be daydreaming again!" My mother shouts. I quickly grab my tiara off of the ground, since I dropped it moments ago. This very crown was my great great grandmothers, it has been passed down for years to the women in my family. I pick up the bottom of my dress, making sure the silky white fabric doesn't drag on the ground, before taking off towards my mother.

"Rose, hurry up before our uncle blows you to bits!" James, my younger brother who is 13 and thinks he is the man of the house, shouts.

I kick off my heels and pick them back up before taking off towards my family once again, who are about twenty feet ahead of me. I struggle to keep my breathing steady, since I haven't exercised in months. The harsh winter has made it almost impossible to go outside, but thankfully the weather has gotten better since then.

"Do you think it would help if I just carried you the rest of the way?" Daniel asked, as the corner of his lips turn up. Danny has always had a crush on me since we were children. He recently told me how big of a crush it was and now we are soon to be wed when I turn twenty, which is in two exciting years.

"That's very kind of you, but I think it would only slow us down." We both laugh, trying to make light of this terrible situation that is happening around us. Daniel has always been able to make me smile when it seemed the world around us was falling apart, and I think that is a big reason why I am attracted to him so much.

We lock hands as we run away from the chaos that has broken out around us. After several grueling minutes of running as fast as our bodies will allow us to, we finally catch up to my mother and brother.

As we race towards the woods, I can sense myself growing weary at the creepiness of the dark forest. There has been countless of stories told about the creatures that lurk within. I can only imagine how many of those stories are actually true. Some say if you enter the woods you're knocking on Death's door and asking for the worse possible things to happen to you.

"Alright children, I want us all to stay close together. The last thing I need is one of you to wonder off and get lost in these woods." My mother tells Daniel, James, & I. My mother looks slightly hesitant to enter the woods, but she pulls through and takes the first step in.

There is a large trail that leads into the woods, but neither of us know how deep into the forest it goes. We can only hope it will lead straight to the safe house or at least close to it. My mother and father built the house years ago for this very reason, but I have my doubts the trail will lead to it since the house is supposed to be hidden. The house was purposely built in the woods so no one would be able to find it, unless they had the old map my father drew out. We are going alone in fear of others following if they notice what we are doing. My father will need all the guards he can get, so that is why he trusted Daniel in getting us to the safe house in one piece.

"This isn't that scary," James speaks up just as a crow flies down and tries to attack us. I scream in fear, grabbing onto Danny causing both of us to come tumbling down to the ground. My mother places her hand over her heart after the annoying bird disappears.

"Well, James maybe you shouldn't test these woods. Neither of us know what truly lurks within these trees." My mother lightly scolds him as she shakes her head, obviously just worried about our wellbeing. I can tell she is already stressed out, which she should be since her other half is fighting for his life, while she is leading her family into a forbidden forest which many say is cursed.

"It's alright, mother. We will get to the safe house before you know it." I try to sooth her mind from thinking the worse as I get up off of Daniel. She nods her head in agreement as we continue walking further into the woods.

My feet begin to get sore from walking in heels for so long. I had to put my shoes back on after stepping on countless sticks that started to cut into the bottom of my feet. Danny offered to carry me again, but I denied because I could tell he was slowly starting to get tired as well.

"How much longer do you think it will be?" James whines, as he drags his feet against the earth's floor.

"However long it takes, my son." My mother looks like she is about to pass out from exhaustion herself. She pushes her long black hair back out of her face. I offer her a hair tie, she obliges with a smile and puts her hair up in a ponytail.

"I think we might need to stop for the night." Daniel tells me. I agree with him before I tell my mother of our plans. She agrees and takes a seat down on the ground. We all cuddle up, leaning against a big tree trunk. I rest my head on Danny's shoulder before slowly falling asleep to the sound of his soothing hum.

* * *

I'm awaken to the sound of an ear-piercing scream. I jump back in shock as I see my mother being slowly dragged away by a dark figure with blood red eyes. I cry out for her as I scramble to my feet to help save her. Daniel is fighting the creature with a pocket knife he carries everywhere with him. He tries stabbing the dark figure, but it does nothing but make it even more mad. I grab James who is standing in pure shock to the right of me. I cover his eyes from seeing the event that is going down in front of us as tears begin to fill my eyes.

"Mom!" My voice cracks, making my last words to her come out in a screech like noise. Slowly my mother disappears into the dark forest, leaving only a piece of her red dress behind. I stand up and grab the fabric off of the ground as Daniel walks over to me with a horrified expression. I can tell he doesn't know what to do, and neither do I.

"I have failed your father." He looks down, kicking the dirt before screaming at himself. Tears start to pour down my face as I grab onto him, but he just pushes me away before grabbing me, and then my brother, and embracing us in a tight hug.

I begin to cry as reality sinks in that my mother is really gone, and that dark creature is still out there, probably waiting to take one of us as well. The tears continue to pour even as we are walking further away from the place my mother was taken from.

The longer we walk the more I feel like someone is watching us, just waiting for one of us to slip up and wander off too far. The trees gather closer together and the forest gets darker. Everything seems to move in slow motion, before it all went black.
