I woke up and I felt horrible.
My throat was dry, and sore. Also my mouth tasted funny.
Even my head pounded and throbbed. Every part of my body hurt. It felt like I had been run over by a car.
But the worse pain was in my rib. My breath was rasping down my throat. I felt so sick.
“Aww” I groaned.
Bonnie whimpered. I turned my beady eyes her way.
She was sitting in the corner closest to me. And she was actually looking at me. I was flabbergasted, I couldn’t say a word.
There was sympathy in her golden eyes.
She cares about me!
For a second I forgot about the pain. I marveled in the fact that Bonnie actually cared that I was in pain.
She cares? She cares! Oh Bonnie I’ll find a way to get us out of this place I promise.
Bonnie crooked her head, then turned to the door. A low growl slipped trough her clenched teeth.
I couldn’t hear anything this time, my head was too wrapped up around my pain.
May and Tom came in.
Tom scowled when he saw me on the table. I cringed away from him, a whine escaping my throat.
I gasped when I moved.
Ow!
“What are we suppose to do with this one?” he asked May inclining his head in my direction.
“We have to get her to change, but Mr. Buchcowski wants to be here to see it, so I guess we just have to wait.”
Tom’s face furrowed, but then he shrugged and went to sit in one of the chairs. He leaned back ignoring me and watched Bonnie.
May still looked a little scared of me, so she went to sit next to him.
Bonnie acted restless. She couldn’t sit still. She started panting.
Mr. Buchcowski walked into the room, Mr. Tank behind him. They had been talking about something before coming in because then Mr. Buchcowski said.
“And why not?”
“Because it wont be good for her rib, if she moves it too soon.” Mr. Tank pleaded.
Oh they’ve been talking about me.
“Yeesh, what’s come over you? She’ll be fine. Now shut up or I’ll kick you out.”
Mr. Tank lowered his head in submission.
Buchcowski turned his gloating face my way. Bile threatened to come up my throat but I held it back.
“Ok, Taylor you be a good girl and change into an animal.” Mr. Buchcowski said pleasantly.
What? You want me to mutate? But I can’t…and even if I could why would I do it for you?
I locked my lips and glared at him.
Bonnie had stopped growling. I turned to look at her. She was staring at me in bewilderment again. Her emotions were clear on her face.
What? What are they talking about? she said with her eyes, what do they mean? That girl can’t change into a wolf? Can she?
She scrutinized every inch of my body, looking for something to explain what the scientists were talking about.
Yes, yes Bonnie, they are saying the truth, I just don’t know how…
