The sun had barely begun to dip below the horizon when the chaos began.
The Ducks were gathered in the team lounge after filming, sprawled across the floor and couches, sweat still drying on their necks and laughter filling the room. Someone had ordered pizza, and the scent of pepperoni and cheese hung heavy in the air. Soda cans littered the coffee table. Aaron Lohr was half-sitting, half-lounging on a bean bag, shuffling a deck of UNO cards with the most mischievous grin imaginable.
"All right, gentlemen and ladies," Aaron announced, slapping the deck on the table. "Tonight's game is about to get a little... unpredictable."
Joshua raised an eyebrow, leaning back against the couch. "You mean like last time when Matt tried to trade Skip-Bo cards and insisted it was a new rule?"
"That was genius and you know it," Matt piped up from across the room, pushing his glasses up his nose. "Innovative thinking is what wins championships."
"Right," muttered Garrette, shaking his head with a grin. "Let's just play Uno."
Aaron smirked and pulled out a handful of blank wild cards he'd scavenged from various Uno decks over the years. He held up a Sharpie like it was a golden ticket. "No, no, no. This ain't regular Uno. This... is Lohr Uno. And rule one of Lohr Uno is: if you get a blank card, you write your own rule."
"Lohr Uno?" Colombe repeated, tilting her head. "You just make that up right now?"
"Sure did," Aaron replied proudly. "Come on. Let's spice this up."
The guys shrugged and nodded, passing around the Sharpie as they grabbed the blank cards.
Brandon's eyes gleamed as he scribbled furiously on one of the wilds. He held it up with a triumphant grin. "Automatic cake eaters draw 10!"
There was a beat of silence before everyone erupted in groans and laughter.
"Dude!" Joshua laughed, clutching his stomach. "You're targeting Vinny again?!"
Brandon shrugged, not even trying to hide his smirk. "Hey, if the glove fits..."
Vincent shot Brandon a dirty look from across the table. "Unbelievable," he muttered. "What did I even do to deserve this?"
"You were born in Eden Hall, LaRusso. It's not personal," Brandon said with a wink.
Vincent rolled his eyes but couldn't help the smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Aaron, meanwhile, was still laughing as he took his turn with the Sharpie. "Okay, okay, I got one. Ready?"
He turned his card toward the group with exaggerated drama.
"Slap the person you want to draw 4."
Everyone blinked.
Then they all burst into laughter again.
"No way that's a real rule," Garrette said through his cackling.
"It is now," Aaron said proudly. "Imagine the drama, the betrayal! Uno just got real, baby."
"Aaron," Marguerite said with a smirk, "you are absolutely unhinged."
Aaron bowed with theatrical flair. "Thank you."
Joshua reached for the deck. "All right. Let's shuffle these babies in and let the games begin."
Colombe cracked her knuckles. "Somebody's gonna cry before this night's over, and it's probably gonna be Brandon."
"Me?" Brandon gasped. "Please. I'm the Uno champion."
"We'll see about that," Vincent said with a sly grin, cutting the deck.
