"FLIGHT 143 TO BOULDER, COLORADO IS NOW BOARDING" I sighed and heaved my carry-on up onto one shoulder and took Catherine from Zayn, placing her on my other side.
"Well, I guess this is it, huh?" Zayn had managed to get us the first flight out to Denver, Colorado from London, which just so happened to be at three in the morning. I was so incredibly thankful for what Zayn had done for us though. Without him I wouldn't have been able to go through with any of this.
"I guess it is..." He trailed off as he dropped his eyes to the floor and shoved his hands into his pockets. I know he was having a hard time with this, because I was too.
"Thank you Zayn." I pulled him into a bone crushing hug, and I heard him sniffle as he pulled us closer.
"Gonna miss you, Sami." He mumbled against my hair and I smiled, pulling away from the hug to peck his cheek lightly.
"I'm going to miss you too, Zee." I ruffled his hair which caused him to groan and shy away from me, brushing his hair back into place. I couldn't help but roll my eyes as I watched him.
"Hey! Ya had to go ruin a perfectly mushy moment now didn't you?" He pouted and I just smiled playfully before punching him playfully in the arm. He pulled me into another hug.
"Seriously Sam, call me if you need anything, yeah? I'm here for you." I breathed in the smell of his sweet cologne for the last time. I nodded into his chest, but the truth was, I wasn't planning on calling. I wasn't planning on texting. Sure, for the first few weeks I would, but after a while he'd forget, and he'd move on. Just like the rest. For a while he'd remember, and then hopefully, he'd start to lose touch with us. But that's what I wanted... That's what we needed to start over.
I pulled away from Zayn and hiked the bag farther up on to my shoulder.
"Okay, thanks again for everything Zee, a-and if anyone asks you don't have to tell them anything at all just-" He stuck out his hand in a signal for me to stop and he threaded his hands nervously through his hair.
"Sam, Babe, it's okay. Don't worry about it, I have it under control, okay?" I smiled and nodded again as I turned to give the flight attendant my ticket.
"So... um, I guess this is goodbye then," I said awkwardly with a laugh. He had his sunglasses on and his hood up as a disguise, but I knew he had to get going now before anyone started to recognize him, plus, we'd already hugged enough to make anyone looking on think that one of us was dying or something. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and nodded, his gaze directed at the floor.
"Yeah... It is." I turned to leave, when an otherwise quiet and sleepy Catherine decided it was her turn to speak up.
"No Mumma! No Mummy! I no wanna weave Uncle Zee!" She quickly started to fall apart in my arms. I sighed and struggled to hold my daughter in my arms as she was desperately reaching out for Zayn. "Uncle Zee, NO! I wanna stay wif you and Daddy! Noooo!" She started screaming and struggling to break away from me. It broke my heart to see her like this tears running down her face in panic, and it took everything in me not to just give in to her pleas right then and there.
"Hey, shhh, baby girl it's gonna be okay, yeah? Uncle Zee will come visit you soon, okay, Darling? I promise." He soothed her quietly before she could make a bigger scene and draw any attention to us. Catherine sniffled quietly and rubbed at her tired little, watery eyes, still hiccuping from the sudden sobs.
"You pwomise?" She held out her pinky finger for him and he wrapped his large pinky around her smaller one.
"I promise, Caty Cat, I promise. But you have to go with Mumma now, okay? You have to be a good girl for her, can you do that?" She wiped her eyes and nodded with a frown on her face.
