The soft rays of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a golden glow across the living room. Vivek and Arya sat side by side on the couch, their eyes glued to the laptop screen as they discussed details of Arya’s ongoing project. Papers, notes, and a steaming cup of tea were scattered on the coffee table in front of them. In the background, Uncle could be heard moving around the kitchen, the familiar clinking of utensils marking his daily morning chores.
Just then, the doorbell rang, breaking the calm.
Arya (looking up from the screen): Mai dekhti hu.
(She pushed the laptop slightly away and started to rise.)
But before she could take a step, a sudden blur of energy shot through the hallway. Prince appeared out of nowhere, rushing forward like a cyclone, his eyes twinkling with mischief and excitement. His hair was slightly messy, and he almost stumbled while running, but his grin was unstoppable.
Prince (breathlessly, while dashing towards the main door): Wait, bhabhi! Mai kholta hu!
Arya blinked in surprise, her hand still halfway in the air.
Arya: Arey! Isse kya hua?
Vivek, still seated with an unimpressed face, leaned back on the couch and crossed his arms.
Vivek (dryly): Only he knows…
(He muttered with a look that screamed “I’m so done with this boy,” though a faint twitch at the corner of his lips hinted at suppressed amusement.)
A moment later, Prince came bouncing back into the living room, hugging a medium-sized parcel to his chest as if it were treasure. His steps turned into a little dance as he twirled once in sheer excitement, leaving Arya and Vivek utterly confused yet amused. Both exchanged a knowing glance and started giggling softly at his childish display.
Prince (with the enthusiasm of a little kid on his birthday): Woh mera parcel tha… iss liye!
[It was my parcel that's why]
Vivek (raising his brows, unimpressed but curious): Haan, woh dekha hamne.
[Yes, we saw that]
Arya tilted her head, her curiosity piqued.
Arya: Esa kya hai isme?
[Arya : what's inside it]
Vivek (suspiciously, eyeing him): Anything personal?
Prince (shaking his head dramatically, grinning): Personal? Nahi nahi, bhaiya… wait, dikhata hu!
[Prince : Personal, no no bhaiya wait, let me show you]
(He placed the parcel with a thud on the coffee table, then immediately dashed off towards the kitchen, calling out for Uncle.)
Prince: Uncle! Cutter kahan hai?[uncle!where's the cutter?]
Within moments, he returned triumphantly holding a small cutter. Without wasting another second, he crouched by the coffee table and attacked the cardboard box with exaggerated seriousness, his tongue peeking out slightly in concentration. Arya and Vivek, who had been so immersed in the laptop earlier, had now completely abandoned their work. Their eyes followed Prince, amusement growing as if they were watching a comedy show unfold in their own living room.
Finally, with a dramatic swipe, Prince ripped the last of the tape open.
Prince (beaming, holding up his prize like a magician revealing his trick): Tadaaa! Dekho bhaiya… shoes!
[See bhaiya.. It's shoes]
Arya’s shoulders instantly slumped. She had expected something exciting or useful for herself too, but on realizing it was just a pair of men’s shoes, her interest vanished. She gave a polite smile and returned her gaze to the laptop.
