"Hey, Laur?" I questioned while looking down at the other end of the couch where Lauren was sitting, her face glued to whatever Youtube video she had been watching for the past couple of minutes. She hummed to show that she had heard what I had said, yet she didn't take her eyes off of the phone. Pouting slightly, I waited for her to pause the video and look up at me but she never did. Giving a bit of a huff of annoyance, I thought for a moment on how I would be able to get her attention without having to sit up from my relaxed position and eventually came to the solution of sticking my foot out in her direction.
Sure enough, the moment that my foot was the way of her view, she swatted at it lightly before putting her phone down on the arm of the couch. Pausing the video first, of course. Turning to face me, she raised an eyebrow while meeting my gaze with her own bright green eyes.
"Is there something that I can help you with Y/N?" Lauren asked in a mock serious tone, a small smile dancing on her lips. I nodded my head and shifted on the couch as I sat up. Crossing my legs, I sat up and scooted towards the center of the couch so that I was no longer that far away from Lauren, nodding as I moved. The entire time that we had been relaxing on the couch, I had been thinking of ways that I could ask her out and so far the only thing that I had come up with would be to just ask. Flat out, right at this moment. With my heart pounding in my chest and my hands starting to sweat, I cleared my throat before speaking up in a voice that was quite shy.
"W-would you like to, maybe go out...?" I asked, my shyness getting the best of me as I looked down at my lap and started playing with my thumbs.
"Are you definitely asking me out?" Lauren questioned while looking at me with a raised eyebrow. I nodded my head as a reply, not trusting myself to speak clearly seeing as I was now worried that she was going to turn me down and I'd just have to deal with it. A couple seconds after I nodded my head, I felt her hands suddenly being placed over mine and I looked up to see her looking right back at me. With a wide smile growing on her face, she nodded her head before giving my hand a small squeeze.
"I'd love to go out with you, just name a time and a place." Lauren said happily before she moved her hand off mine, now getting ready to pick up her phone once again so that she could continue watching her video again. With what she said in my mind, I decided to take the second large leap of the evening and cleared my throat to speak up once again.
"Now and the location will be somewhere, but I'm not going to tell you just yet." I stated, already starting to think of the different things that I could do with the location that I had in mind. The thing that seemed to be repeating itself over and over again as I was thinking was a picnic, so I decided I would go with that if she said yes.
"(Y/N), it's almost dinner time and then it's going to be dark out shorty after that. Plus, tonight is out take-out night, we have to stay here and wait on our food after we order." Lauren pointed out, only getting a shrug from me in return. I remembered that tonight was going to be the night that we ordered Chinese and then laid around on the couch while we ate, watching whatever we could find on TV, however, I could still make the date happen. I was determined to make this date happen.
"We can still order take-out and wait for it, I'm not saying that we skip over that. Why don't you call and order, then while we are waiting on it to get here, I get things ready for tonight?" I questioned, already starting to think of the different things we would need for the night that I had in mind. While I waited on a response, I mentally crossed my fingers and prayed that she would give me a chance. Lauren seemed to think for a moment before she nodded her head. Before I had time to celebrate, she held up a finger to me, telling me that she had something else to say.
"Don't pick the movies, please. We've gone to the movies too much recently to go again." She said, immediately getting a nod from me. Lauren let out a chuckle before she turned her attention back to her cell phone, only this time she was closing out of the video that she had been watching and picked up the TV remote shortly after. I quickly got off the couch and made my way upstairs, knowing what I needed to get because I had been thinking before Lauren even had time to say yes.
