He sighed again. "Don't worry, I won't kill you... Now," he whispered calmly. He seemed to get his soothing voice back. I was too worried to panic. "But, aren't you a vampire?" I asked. Clearly, he caught that I was confused. "Yes," he continued quietly. "Don't be afraid, please, don't be afraid," he whispered. I took a deep breath. Without a warning, he dashed off somewhere. I gasped and turned into that direction. Could I trust him? UH... Hmmm, let's see. How about NO!!! The voice in my head screamed.
It was very quiet. I knew I could walk around, but I was too afraid to. I didn't know what he was going to do. In the distance, I heard someone scream in pain. "Carter!" I cried out, when I recognized his voice. He was in pain and agony all because of me. I started to freak out. Was he being killed? I started pacing as more questions filled. In a flash, Victor was back again. "Where are you going?" He asked me angrily. His piercing black eyes and his tone had me stunned. Was he going to kill me now? Think, Chelsea!! He's a freaking vampire!!! THINK!! My mind screamed at me.
"I want to go back home," I said quietly. I felt a lot calmer now. I was no longer panicking about death or Carter, though I still love him. His eyes were full of regret and confusion flowed through me again. "What did you do to Carter?" I asked him. My voice was acidic. He stared at me shocked. But then, he composed his features into a calm mask again. "I didn't do anything, he just gained back his consciousness. If anything, I helped him. I saved him," he replied. I didn't know what to even think anymore. "Where did you go then?" I asked, my voice still hard. He just smiled.
"I want you to know that I don't want there to be so much pain for you," he began. I was about to speak but he held a hand up. "Don't interrupt me. I'm going to change you into a vampire." Run NOW Chelsea!!! DO YOU HEAR ME??? RUN!!! My head was spinning. "There are too many out there who want to kill you." Well that's a shocker... The voice inside my head spoke again. "Your blood attracts many of my kind. I want you to trade your mortality for immortality," he whispered. He slowly reached out as if to soothe me but I flinched away. "Don't be afraid," he continued to whisper. I didn't look at him, but I could feel his presence. "I don't want you to be killed," he whispered quietly to me. "I don't want to be killed either." I looked up at him. He was backing up slowly. I was grateful for the space.
We continued to stare at each other. I didn't forget that he wanted to end my life. Or that Carter was away from me. I was trying to fight through the mask he made. I didn't know him well enough though, so it didn't work out well. "What are you thinking?" He mumbled. "I'm trying to figure you out," I replied quietly. I heard a branch snap somewhere in the woods. I let out a tiny gasp and Victor froze. "I'm so sorry," he spoke quietly to me. "What?" I asked. He took my wrist and I flinched at his touch. His grip was too strong to pull away from. It kind of hurt. I knew I couldn't outrun him but maybe if I looked scared enough, it would distract him a bit longer for someone to find me here. A girl can only dream...
His fingers were still very tight around my wrist. My hand felt numb from his contact. I didn't know how to go with this so I just put on a scared expression. "Don't be afraid," he whispered yet again. Like that's easy... "I can't," I muttered acidly. He looked puzzled that I spoke back to him. His expression suddenly turned gruesome and frightening. He apparently heard someone or something that my faint human ears couldn't.
"Come on out Stella," he called out. In a flash, a tall figure with long, fire red hair popped out to stand next to him. "I found her," he told her. "Good," she replied. "This is my wife, Stella," he introduced us. What was the point? I was going to die anyway right? Why did I need to know her? Was she the one who wanted to kill me? Is that why he didn't? So many questions I had, but surely, they wouldn't be answered. I was surprised. I imagined a high voice for this beautiful creature. Instead, she had a bold, feline ring to it.
"Hello Chelsea," she said in her beautiful voice. She flashed a bright, brilliant smile with fangs sharp and shiny. I shuddered. A chill flew down my spine. My stomach twisted and churned. How can such a beautiful creature seem so fearsome. I heard something else snap a twig. Oh, no. Did they have a whole family here? Ugh!! Vampire these days... The humans have to figure all the things out themselves, don't we? But apparently no, they didn't know who this was either. Victor's grip on my wrist hasn't loosened and Stella definitely noticed. She glared at his hand but he didn't seem to notice. He wasn't so gentle or soft now. He seemed like a killer. That was what he was though, a killer. "Who's out there?" He roared out angrily. No one replied but I was sure someone was out there,
"Maybe we don't have to kill her," Victor tried to persuade Stella. "Either you change her, or someone else kills her," Stella retorted. Victor just chuckled. "They won't get to her if we're protecting her," he tried again. "And have her slow us down? Victor, we could get killed too!" Stella rumbled. "And besides, I might just kill her myself if I lose self control," she continued to bark. "I don't want her to scream in pain," Victor tried to soothe her. "She'll be screaming in more pain if one of our kind bites and drinks all of her blood," Stella thundered. "Fine," Victor grumbled, giving in to Stella. I felt aghast again. I knew that life was hard. I knew life was painful. But I imagined death to be peaceful and happy as a reward for life. I was fearful again. Ugh!! So pathetic. I wanted so badly to tell the voice in my head to shut up. They both noticed my heart speeding up again. "You'll have to do it Victor," she whispered. "I won't be able to stop," she continued, smiling deviously. "Of course I'll do it," Victor snorted.
There was a low rumble slowly building up someone deep inside the forest. Victor and Stella both looked at each other and they looked... Scared? How could two immortals be afraid of something? Unless... No, I didn't want to even entertain the thought, but I knew I had to. What if there were more vampires out here in the woods? They'd try to kill me right? Would a fight break out? How painful would this be? So many freaking questions!!!
