"What was that for!" He yelled at her as he rubbed his stinging cheek. The Weasley girl looked ready to explode. When she did, Draco could barely understand her.
"You think you can," She started, but was interrupted by a series of squeaks. "Waltz in and imply," interrupted again. "That I would sell myself to you, basically," This time a series of croaks. "Have the nerve to ask for my help in revenge," A odd flapping sound emerged from her lips. "Insult my family, and remind me," A bullhorn-like sound escaped from her mouth.
"That I let the one and only Harry Potter slip away!"A long squeal punctuated it. She seemed more frustrated at herself than him.
Draco didn't say anything, but his face clearly portrayed his thoughts of 'What in the bloody world did I just hear?'
Both with the sounds and the statement.
She looked as if she intended to slap him again.
"I had a bad enough week," Another bullhorn. " and then got hexed to talk like this," a cat's meow escaped. "By quote unquote do-gooders for the Chosen One," a bark from a dog. "And still haven't found the counter-curse!" A trill that could belong to a phoenix sounded. "You think I can deal with you playing dumb!" A series of random clicks ended her monologuing.
Draco had slowly started to back away. His Slytherin self-preservation instincts had kicked in. And his Slytherin ambition to get her to help started to decode what she was saying.
"What do you mean you let Harry get away?" He yelped when he realized.
Her face seemed to melt fluidly from anger to disbelief tinged with sadness. "You really don't know?" She said, voice quietly emitting chitters. "There is no Golden couple," a miniscule neigh. "Anymore."
Her eyes widened. "Harry?" A pig-like snuffle came after.
Draco started to panic. Had she caught the use of Potter's first name? Why had he not caught it himself?
"Oh, hey Ginny, what is wrong with your voice?"
A male voice said behind him. The redhead looked offended by his bluntness. She gave a humph and immediately left.
He turned around to see, who else...Harry Potter. He had an eyebrow cocked up and a semi-surprised expression. "What crawled up her arse and died?" He asked Draco, as if they had only talked yesterday.
All plans fled from Draco's mind. Screaming, no, he was supposed to run, wait, wasn't that the last step? His thoughts were as good as mush. He stood with his mouth agape, trying to formulate a plan to get away that involved more than just running.
"Careful, you'll catch flies." Harry joked.
"Just go away, Potter." He said, willing his voice to listen and not crack. I need time to think.
It cracked anyway.
Damn you rebel voicebox!
Harry looked miffed. "Are we back to last names now?" He asked. Draco moved his mouth, intending to say a witty comeback, but all he had was thoughts of Run! So no witty comeback. "You're not going to talk, are you?" Harry grumbled. Draco choose not to comment and started to turn away.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Harry aimed at his turned back. Draco felt his body stiffening and fell to the ground. He hoped his eyes showed how angry he was. "Well, first time I would admit it," Harry declared, rubbing his wand fondly, "but that spell did some actual good this time."
He pointed his wand at Draco's face, nearly touching his nose. "I'm not going to say the counter-curse 'til you hear me out. So best be for you to listen. At least this time you can't interrupt."
And then Harry talked. He flopped down and just babbled. He explained his worries, how he wondered what he had done to Draco. How Ginny had been a bother, yet a sister since forever and how jealous he slightly felt when he saw her with him. How he was surprised at what he had asked her, and unashamedly proud that she slapped him.
Along the way, Draco stopped paying attention to the story, and just looked. And looked. He wasn't sure why he kept looking, staring at Harry's face. It felt nice, calming even. He only started to listen again when the story was nearly at the end.
"I thought it would be best just to ignore that we haven't been talking, and when you turned away, I figured it wasn't the best idea. I needed answers, Draco, I still do. So here we are now, me hexing you and proceeding to tell you the stuff I need to say. Even if you don't listen. So, grant me a favor, and tell me something, even if it's an I hate you." Harry looked hopefully at him.
Draco couldn't roll his eyes because of the curse, but if he could, he would have rolled them out of their sockets. Harry kept looking, then looked away. "I know I was harsh, with the hex, I know! But you could at least blink or fidget or..." Harry scratched the back of his neck with his wand. "Oh. Well, I guess there was a reason I wasn't put in Ravenclaw."
He cast the counter-curse, and Draco stretched his arms."I haven't had that spell cast on me in a while. It sure stiffens you up." Harry chuckled slightly. Draco looked straight ahead. "Is it true what you said?" He said quietly. Harry asked, "About Ravenclaw? Yeah, that's true, I mean, the trio's brain is Hermione. She could've been a Ravenclaw."
Draco lightly hit the boy next to him as he sat up a bit straighter. "Doofus. I meant with everything else." Harry paused, then answered, "I think it is, I said it in the heat of the moment and it seemed pretty sure to me then." Draco frowned. "So you're not sure now?" Harry said, "No no no!" He gestured hugely. "What I mean is," sounding more sure of himself, "I thought I was sure then and..." He stressed.
"I know I mean it now."

Harry held his breath after his brazen statement. Draco continued to stare ahead, as if contemplating what to do five steps ahead of now. Finally, he turned his head to face Harry's. Harry realized how close they were, because their noses nearly brushed each others. He could tell Draco realized it too, for he scooted a couple inches away.
But then he stopped himself.
"I find it really, touching," the other boy said, "that you cared that much. It's a, nice, feeling." Out of brotherly instinct, Harry reached over and gave Draco's shoulder a light squeeze. To his surprise, he felt arms wrap around him quickly to give him a hug, barely brushing his fingertips, in return. They were gone quickly and the boys just sat in silence. Waiting for the other to say anything.
"Thanks for caring." Draco finally broke the silence. "Thanks for the hug." Harry sincerely replied. It would be cool to have a person walk around Hogwarts giving out free hugs. They made people feel good, and this one had been no different, Harry would admit to that. Draco looked embarrassed. "I didn't know how I was supposed to react.". " Don't worry," Harry assured him, "you did fine."
"What now?" Draco bluntly said. Harry let go a laugh. "We can just talk, I suppose." The blonde raised an eyebrow. Back to sarcasm already. "Yes, the schools most infamous rivals can just chat in the hallways during lunch, OK. " Harry shrugged. "Well, we couldn't do that. And we need to eat. I'll grab some food and we can go somewhere else to be 'messy, disrupting eight years." Harry had placed on a scowl.
Draco mouth upturned a bit at the corners. "Filch said that, didn't he? Can't believe he hasn't dropped dead yet." Then he took a step towards the Great Hall. "Who said I was coming with you? I have to stay with Hermione during lunch." Harry was curious at the use of the words 'have to', but choose leave it be. "One time won't kill her. Two times will, trust me, I know. I'll grab something good." Harry added, "And stay here. I don't feel like playing hide and seek around the castle."
Draco rolled his eyes, but nodded. Harry sneaked into the Great Hall, but quickly ducked out when he saw Hermione. She was scanning the area with purpose. She kept looking, so Harry accioed treacle tarts and flasks of pumpkin juice. Carrying the goodies, he walked back to Draco. His eyes widened when he saw the amount of food in Harry's arms. "Are we feeding ourselves or a small army?"
Harry ignore the comment and walked toward the stairs. "Where we going?" Draco called as he jogged to catch up. Harry stopped. Where would they go? But the answer came quickly. It was time Draco learned of one of Hogwarts' unique features.
"Have you ever heard of the Room of Requirement?"
