Fred and Hermione had been dating almost two months.
Hermione and Draco's sessions had ended; Draco had decided he no longer required the extra support and McGonagall had agreed. Hermione was slightly ashamed to admit she would miss their weekly meetings.
It was late, and in typical British fashion, despite it being Summer there was a storm brewing outside. Hermione was sitting on the sofa in the common room, revising for her History of Magic exam with Fred's head in her lap. Sadly exam season had begun and it often cut into their time together. Luckily, Fred didnt seem to mind just laying their with her whilst she read a book or did a practice paper.
Even though Hermione hated the fact she had hurt Draco, she couldn't deny that Fred was the one she liked - her and Draco could be friends yes, but the things he had said to her, and he continued to say when he was with his friends, she could never forgive enough to actually date him.
"Fred, why wont you tell me when you and George are going?" Putting her book down, she looked down at Fred and sighed. Brushing a falling piece of hair behind Hermione's ear, Fred left his hand on her cheek. "Because you'll kill me."
"Its during one of my exams isnt it? I told you, you're not as secretive as you think." Fred just raised an eyebrow. "I'm saying nothing. Now come on, you need sleep - you've got an exam in the morning." Hermione bent down and kissed Fred's forehead. "Fine. Goodnight Freddie." Fred sat up and let her go past. "Goodnight Herminny." Hermione shook her head laughing as she went up the stairs.
The Next Morning
Pouring herself a bowl of cornflakes and orange juice, Hermione smiled as her two best friends flung themselves either side of her. "Good morning boys." Ron raised his eyebrow. "Whats so good about it? History of Magic exam today..." Ron said, before ranting about what a useless subject it was.
Hermione sighed and rested her head against Harry's shoulder, just as he reached for a piece of toast. "Its scary isnt it, that these exams help decide which NEWTs we can take?"
Ron rolled his eyes and said through a mouthful of bacon and eggs, "'s 'f 'oo 'eed 'o 'orry 'bout 'at"
Chuckling, Hermione sat up and put her arms around them both. "Charming as ever Ronald."
After a few minutes, the Twins sat opposite them. "Careful boys, she's mine." Fred said with a wink.
The group of five sat eating breakfast for until the Great Hall started to be cleared for the exam.
As they left, Fred pulled Hermione to the side and held her hand as they walked. It warranted a few stares; everyone knew Hermione was a family friend of the Weasleys due to Ron, but no-one had ever imagined such a plain girl, ending up with such a guy. He was the Joker and she was the Brain box. Everyone had assumed she would end up with either Harry or Ron.
Once they were outside, Hermione waited to see what Fred wanted to talk about - it was clear there was something on his mind. "Its today." He said, not looking at her.
Hermione didnt believe in massive shows of romance, or public shows of affection but she pulled Fred to her and gave him a long kiss. She knew it would only be weeks until she saw him again, but that seemed like forever when she had spent the last month seeing him every day.
Fred held her tightly. He pulled away and rested his chin on her head. "Hey, its only going to be for a few weeks. I'll write everyday." Hermione brought out a new side to Fred; he was still the joker, but he didnt mind being serious.
"You'd better start practicing then; no one can read your scribbles." Fred laughed at her joke attempt. He brought out a side to Hermione as much as she did to him.
One Hour Later
Just as Hermione finished the paper (with time to spare) a firework burst through the door. Hermione knew instantly it was Fred and George. Just as she thought, not a moment later the Twins flew above them, letting off a load of fireworks. For the next ten minutes, havoc reigned down on the school - havoc that Dumbledore and his teachers could have handled in minutes. However Umbridge had no idea what she was doing, and the teachers acted baffled as well. The look on Umbridge's face as Fred and George caused chaos was worth all the trouble that was sure to follow. As the fireworks went off, the teachers tried to avoid laughing but they just couldn't.
Finally, Fred and George flew out into the grounds.
"GIVE HER HELL FROM US PEEVES!" They shouted, floating above. Peeves saluted them and left into the castle.
The cheers from the students were so loud, Hermione was sure her eardrums would burst.
"See you in a few weeks, Hermione! I love you!" Fred shouted as they flew off, leaving a trail of fireworks behind them.
Laughing, Hermione wrapped her arms around Harry and Ron when Harry collapsed... as he did Hermione realised that this year was far from over.
