"How did Adiutor know about that?" Aurelius demanded, his hand on his sword as if warning Pai about what would happen if he refused to talk.
Pai gulped, mentally cursing Jiba– no, Adiutor. "How would I know?" Pai questioned back, running a hand through his hair in a stressed manner.
"Hold on, a secret power?" Feng interrupted, sounding bitter. "I'm supposed to be the protagonist, why don't I get cool powers?"
Both Aurelius and Pai whipped around, both having forgotten that Feng was there and baffled by the stupidity of the question. Feng looked between them, slightly bitter. He remembered, although quite bitterly, when he and Pai were in sync like that. Even though they often still were, a man can be jealous.
Aurelius scoffed, holding up a single pinkie. "..Anyways, it's really nothing too big. I can just..." He hesitated, his signature glare faltering.
He closed his eyes with a sigh, as if he was preparing to enter a room full of children with the task of explaining the backstory of a certain character from some turn-based gacha game.
"I can find things." He grumbled, causing the room to grow quiet. Other than the sound of a giggle from Feng.
"You can....find things." Pai sighed loudly, slowly blinking.
Feng raised a hand, stifling giggles. "That's cool, but are we going to ignore how the systems know what Percy Jackson is?"
Feng was swiftly ignored, interrupted by Aurelius explaining his ability. "I can see visions of home and I can see a silver string on my finger."
Feng's giggles stopped and Pai tensed, neither having thought of 'home' for a while. They looked at each other, each turning to look away at the realization.
"I can get this.." Aurelius paused, gesturing vaguely, "white ball. I can watch people on the other side. I found out a lot about people this way. Apparently, dragons existed."
Feng and Pai tried not to let their disbelief show on their face, the emotion being seen despite it all.
"I had a dragon friend. Granted, I only found out recently, but.." Aurelius defended quickly, crossing his arms.
"Right...." Feng nodded slowly, clearly just trying to appease him. He paused, looking back at Pai who clearly wasn't going to say anything — "So why not use this power to find Fola?" He mumbled, scratching his head.
Pai nodded in silent approval while Aurelius furrowed his brows, clearly having not thought about that possibility. Seriously?
Feng and Pai looked at Aurelius, expectancy in their gazes. It sent a shiver down his spine, and he couldn't help but note that it truly did remind him of two people who were close.
Okay, that was way off topic, and quite frankly, none of Aurelius' business.
Aurelius shook his head, running a hand through his hair. "I don't quite know how to use said power. I was always told that it was dangerous. I never wanted to use it around.." The name went unsaid, but everyone knew who the boy was talking about.
Pai let out a gag and Feng just..stood there. He glanced at Pai with hesitancy, eyes wide and glimmering.
"Niski? They could handle it." Feng questioned, tapping his forehead.
In the novel, they certainly could.
Here? Where Aurelius put so much time and care into ensuring that Niski would never be in danger? Why would he even risk it? In fact....
