                                                                 Chapter 17

“Merry Christmas,” there was a deep voice in my ear but it was too early for me to really hear it or care. I hadn’t had a particularly great night of sleep anyway.

“It’s too early to get up, Christmas or not, go back to bed, Duncan,” I groaned as I turned away from the voice.

“I mean I get it’s early and all but I don’t think Duncan and I sound that similar,” he said. My eyes shot open as I registered the voice.

“Brendon!” I yelled, pouncing on him and giving him a kiss.

“Hey,” he smiled as I pulled away, stroking my messy hair.

“Hey,” I smiled back, “how’s everything going for the songs?”

“It’s coming, lots of work. I was the only one that came home for the holidays. That being said Breezy took the kids and went up and Haley went too. I think they decided we were just going to work though Google docs for the rest of the holidays and such. I gotta double check, but I do believe I’m home for the rest of the month.”

“Yay!” I smiled, kissing him again. We ended up having to restrain ourselves, seeing as we had company and they were all waiting for us downstairs.

“We need to start a Christmas morning tradition,” I said as we descended the stairs to the living room where everyone sat waiting around the tree.  The bottom was filled with bright and shiny wrapped presents and cards.

“We do,” he agreed, “that’s something to discuss later.”

“Morning!” my friends all said in unison.

“Morning,” I smiled. We all sat down around the tree, all of my friends moved from the chairs, and we began handing gifts out. Even though I was the only one that was close enough to Brendon to have even the slightest idea of what to get him all my friends got him gifts, anyway. Everyone had a nice little pile and then we began unwrapping. I always began with cards. I was in tears because everything was so heartfelt, Brendon’s and Jenna’s making me cry the hardest.

“God damn it,” I sniffled as Chase found a box of tissues for me to wipe my eyes and nose with, “You guys are the best.”

“Well, I do try,” Jenna said in a mock pompous voice. I rolled my eyes and laughed as I began opening presents. Chase got me some obscure fashion book because he doesn’t like that I don’t branch out with my style. He thinks that because I have the option to wear multiple different types of clothes that I should wear them all despite how I feel. Duncan and Elizabeth got Brendon and I ridiculous matching sweat shirts because they felt that our little trip to Disneyland meant that we were Disney freaks and needed Mickey and Minnie jackets. While they were kind of adorable they were completely and utterly impractical. Riley got me a gift card because she was never one to know what to get. Jenna got me a plethora of strange gadgets, foods, and toys that she knew I’d enjoy. Brendon’s consisted of a framed picture of us at Spencer’s wedding, an unmarked CD, a skeleton key pendant that I adored, delicate rose gold bow earrings, and a note that said the rest comes after we drop everyone off at the airport.

I looked over at Brendon utterly confused and he smirked at me before opening his gifts from me. I’d never seen him laugh so hard at such a dumb thing as when he pulled out the bottle of Kinky. I had to take it from him because he was about to drop it. He loved the picks, telling me he would only use them at home so as to not break them, he was incredibly excited about the acoustic wood speakers, and he seemed to like the cuff links.
