Chapter 22
“Hey, Brendon’s coming in today and I’ve gotta pick him up from the airport, do you mind if I steal your car for the day?” I asked Jenna as I came back to her room to get dressed after my shower.
“Sure, Ryan’s in town so if I need something he can take me to get it or get it for me,” Jenna smiled and went back to leafing through the Brides Magazine she had beside her. It had been a long week waiting for Brendon to finally get to come in. Jenna was a bridezilla like no other and it was exhausting between her and her mother. Brendon getting here was a welcome break.
“I’m going to miss having you here constantly for the next few days. When do you go?”
“I leave with Brendon on the 10th, but I’ll be back for your first dress appointment.”
“Right. You’re sure you don’t want to just stay the whole way through? It’d be less expensive.”
“I have to help take care of the dogs and keep the house in some kind of array since Brendon has been alone there for way too long. Why do you seem so nervous about me leaving?”
“Because Mom is being ridiculous and she only listens to my opinion when you’re around. She doesn’t seem to trust me to have any kind of hand in planning my own wedding. I may have done plenty of things to make her not trust me but she doesn’t know about any of them so I don’t understand why.”
“Jen, you just have to assert yourself,” I said, sitting down next to her, “If she get to be to much just tell her that it’s your wedding and you and Ryan are even paying for most of it so you deserve to have whatever you want.”
“I’ll try but I doubt she’ll listen. The stuff she’s trying to get me to pick out if like straight form the eighties. I refuse to have sleeves on my dress or gloves; I’m not going to do peach or crème as a wedding color. Like it’s not o-fucking-kay.”
“Don’t worry, I’m here for like eleven more days. You can get through it. I might not be here constantly but if you really need me I have your back. How about when I’m gone getting Bren you start looking for something on your own, like the venue or something.”
“That sounds like a good plan, I’m getting really sick of looking at flowers constantly.”
“Believe me, we all are,” I said, getting up and grabbing my bag from the floor.
“Car keys are on the hook, consider it yours until you leave.”
“Thank you so much,” I smiled, “B and I will see you in the morning. If you need anything feel free to text.”
“I know what you two are going to be doing, don’t worry, I’ll text Ryan. Bye, Faithy,” she grinned as I slipped out of her room, scowling at her, and got to her car to get Brendon from Sky Harbor. He wanted us to have a whole day to ourselves. I headed to the exit for the B gates and waited for Brendon to appear off his flight. Finally through the crowd I could see his hair and I smiled.
“Brendon!” I called out once he was closer. I couldn’t stop myself from running at him and he let his carry-on fall and opened his arms to me, scooping me up and kissing me.
“I’ve missed you like hell, Faith, I should’ve made you stay home longer,” he said as he regrouped and we headed to the car.
