The cavern was gone. The four were now suspended in the fractured twilight of Imaginary Space—shards of gold and violet twisting around them like shattered mirrors.

The Construct stepped forward. Its massive greatsword scraped against nothing, humming with temporal distortions. The glowing circle at its chest pulsed, once, like a heartbeat.

Lux set the unconscious pink-haired girl carefully on a floating petal construct and raised his cannon. Sirin floated beside him, ribbons of void energy snaking out of her fingers, her amber eyes narrowing.

Kiana's voice muttered in Sirin's head. "That thing's huge. Can we—like—NOT die here?"

Sirin smirked grimly. "That depends on if you can shut up long enough."

And then Nihilus moved.

No warning. No wind-up. Just a blur of black and gold tearing forward on clattering, clockwork legs, its massive blade cleaving downward in an arc wide enough to split buildings.

Lux thrust his hand forward. Golden hexagonal shields layered into existence around him. The sword struck—shattering half the barrier stack instantly. The shockwave alone sent him skidding back.

Sirin countered, dozens of subspace lances bursting into existence around her like a bloom of deadly stars. They streaked toward the Husk, detonating in violet eruptions that shook the empty sky.

The dust cleared—Nihilus stood unfazed. Its greatsword rotated, then split into multiple segments that snapped back together, the ornate edges locking into a sharper form.

Lux transformed his cannon into dual golden blades and dashed in, boosters flaring from his back. His strikes were quick, precise, aimed at the joints and glowing chest core. Sparks flew, scoring shallow lines into its armor.

But the Construct was fast—too fast. With a single twist of its torso, it brought its blade across and nearly took Lux's head. He barely phased sideways through Imaginary Space, reappearing behind it, slashing at the glowing circle in its chest.

A flicker—sword reversal. The Construct froze its own movement for half a second, then resumed from a different angle. The blade came down, catching Lux mid-swing.

"Shit—!" Lux's barrier flashed. The blow still sent him tumbling.

Sirin surged in to cover. With both hands she ripped the space in front of her apart, violet ribbons binding together into a lance the size of a small tower. She hurled it with a roar, the weapon spiraling into the Construct's side. It staggered—its torso twisted unnaturally, gears shrieking as golden-black fragments fell away.

Kiana gasped inside. "You actually hurt it—!"

But then, the circle at Nihilus's chest blazed. The cracks across its armor knit back together—not with normal regeneration, but with a temporal rollback. The damage simply... reversed.

Lux's eyes widened. "Nihilus... Husk-class. I've seen this before. It can reset itself—wind back its own time to avoid permanent damage."

He clenched his jaw. "Herrscher-level threat. And worse—it's my old nightmare."

Sirin snarled. "Are you telling me this thing cheats like you do?!"

Lux snapped back. "Hey, don't pin this one on me—"

Kiana suddenly seized their shared mouth. "Focus, idiots!"

Both Lux and Sirin froze mid-quarrel.

Nihilus's body whirred—its segmented limbs splitting, golden wheels spinning into place along its arms and back. With a screech of tearing metal, it launched forward again, its sword raised like a guillotine.
