A week. That's what it took for everyone's patience to run thin.
By this point, they understood no one was coming to save them. They were on their own. The survivor count dropped to 83 and would surely reduce even more in the next few hours. In desperation, the few left decided to opt for a last plan : getting out of this death zone on their own. There was one last communication to the public, but in the end, it can be summed up like this : "Desperate times call for desperate measures." Some might call this suicide, but we would all die here anyway. The radiation levels in Shinjuku were still slowly climbing, so we would all perish in a few weeks. It was all or nothing.
In that regard, since I had access to the sewers, I was better off. I covered a significant part of the travel by moving there. Though when the moment came to go back to the surface, my hands wouldn't stop shaking. I had to repeat inside my head that death was coming regardless of the choice I made to get them to stop shivering.

Lux gradually pushed up the manhole cover and checked his surroundings, wary to the extreme.
No monsters for now. And like the map showed, these are the outskirts of the town. I'm almost there, but now the hard part begins.
Lux didn't just laze around in his bunker all the time. He had asked around as much as he could in order to get even a bit of intel on these monsters, and had arrived at a few conclusions :
1- Fighting is impossible for an unharmed, normal human. Even for zombies, since the natural limiters of their bodies were disabled.
2- They were especially susceptible to reacting to sounds produced by humans. Truly killing machines.
3- They tend to spawn outdoors rather than indoors and were attracted to places with a concentration of humans.
He prudently got out of the sewers and sneaked into the nearest apartment building. Once there, he took the stairs to the second floor and made sure there were no zombies. Had there been any, their heads would have greeted his newly 'borrowed' baseball bat. One of the doors was wide open, which allowed Lux to enter. Trying to determine why would have been a drag and useless to boot, so he didn't bother and got to work.
Once he was done, Lux set his backpack filled with supplies and tools down, sat on a sofa and did his best to calm his breathing and prepare himself. He still had a bit of time since he finished ahead of schedule, better make the most of it. From now on, he would have no time to rest. A few minutes later, he pushed himself up, ignored his rapidly, painfully beating heart and put his backpack on his back. Unconsciously taking a deep breath, Lux's hand shot into his pocket and took his phone. The screen lit up and a few taps later, he had sent his report.
The next few seconds of silence were by far one of the most agonizing experience he ever had. The first thing he heard was the roars of the monsters, a sound that suddenly was very pleasant to his ears : the plan was a success.
A few hours before this, the whole community racked their brains on how to get out of this hellish situation. Now that they decided to act, the most pressing issue was the monsters. To deal with this, the community opted to use decoy tactics. Two radio stations of the town would be triggered at different times, attracting the attention of the monsters and zombies to buy time for evacuation. Of course, only people in optimal physical condition could truly act, since any laggards would die or get left behind if they were even just a little behind schedule. This meant that a select few could get out of the town, considering the fact that there was the need to leave behind a few people to care for the ones who couldn't move.
