The plane hummed quietly as it sliced through the night sky, the soft glow of overhead lights casting warm pools on the cabin. Kelly, Milaine, Max, and Lando were gathered around a small table in one of the private sections of the jet, while Max's team and his dad had retreated to another part of the plane to rest. It was private, cozy, and insulated from the rest of the world.
No one had brought up the pregnancy in front of Lando. Milaine didn't mention it, understanding that Max and Kelly wanted to keep it just between them and the family.. It was a quiet, unspoken agreement, and Milaine didn't plan to break it.
Instead, they focused on the game spread across the table. It was some board-card hybrid that Max and Lando were convinced they could dominate.
The girls had paired up, and the boys, naturally, were teaming against them.
From the very first round, it was obvious who was winning.
«No way! That's not how the rules work!» Lando groaned, flicking a card toward Max as though it might solve the problem.
«You just played it wrong!» Max snapped back, though his eyes were twinkling, and Milaine had to bite back a laugh.
Kelly was doubled over laughing across from them, holding her cards like they were trophies. «Oh my god, you two are hopeless!»
Milaine smirked, placing a token on the board. «Honestly, boys, you're making this too easy.»
«I swear it's rigged!» Lando protested, slumping in his seat dramatically. «We should have won that round!»
«You lost because you weren't paying attention!» Max shot back, pointing at him, then sighed, rubbing his temples. «I can't believe we're this bad. I blame you.»
«I blame you!» Lando countered immediately. «It's your fault we drew that card!»
Kelly was laughing so hard she had to lean forward and steady herself on the table. «Oh my god, you two sound like children!»
Milaine nudged Kelly, grinning. «See? Team girls for the win.»
Max huffed, rolling his eyes «Okay, okay, maybe we need a new strategy.»
«Yeah, like actually reading the rules,» Lando muttered, shaking his head but smiling despite himself.
They kept playing, teasing, blaming, laughing, and joking through the night, the tension of races and rivalries melting away with every round. The two F1 drivers who are leading the championship and are both in a a championship fight with eachother, forgetting about their rivalry and just enjoying a childish card game with their girlfriends..
And the girls were destroying them. Again.
Kelly laid down her last card with a victorious smile. «And that is how it's done.»
«No way!» Lando shot up straighter, staring at the board like it had betrayed him. «She can't do that—tell her she can't do that!»
Max groaned, throwing his own card down. «She can do that. You just weren't paying attention.»
Milaine leaned forward, chin propped on her palm, eyes glittering as she smirked at him. «You're not very good at this, are you?»
Lando narrowed his eyes at her, then pointed accusingly. «Oh, don't get cocky. I'm just warming up.»
«Warming up?» she teased. «You've lost three rounds in a row. That's not warming up, that's—» she placed another token on the board with a deliberate flick «—being terrible.»
