«No... no,no.» His voice rasped, low but shaking. His hand closed around it so tightly the edges dug into his palm.

Max, a few steps ahead, turned. «What is it?»

Lando's breath hitched. He held it up with trembling fingers. «This. This is Milaine's necklace.»

Max squinted, brow furrowed. «Mate, come on. It could belong to anyone. A lot of people wear—»

«Don't.» Lando's voice cracked sharp, too loud for the empty lobby. His eyes burned as he glared at Max.

«I waited four months for this. Custom order. Do you get it? There is no one else with this necklace. It's hers.»

Max started «Okay calm down, She could be upstairs-»

Lando didn't care enough to listen.. all he could think of was..

Milaine had been here. She'd dropped it.

His stomach turned cold.

The elevator chimed. He shoved inside without waiting, Max following quickly, concern etched across his face.

Instead, he pulled his phone from his pocket and tapped her name —

My lioness♥️🦁.

The first ring. Nothing.

Second ring. Nothing.

Third. No answer.

His hand tightened around the phone. Fourth ring. Fifth ring. Six. He was leaning forward now, chest tightening.

«Mila...» His voice cracked. «Pick up... please.»

Seventh ring. Still nothing.

The doors slid open. Lando strode straight to his flat, jammed the key in the lock, and pushed through.

The sight inside made his heart thud harder.

Magui stood near the door, suitcase propped beside her. She was dressed now, hair brushed, no longer wearing his Quadrant hoodie.. Pietra sat on the couch, phone in hand, too calm.

No Milaine..

«Where is she?» Lando's voice was low, dangerous. He still hadn't unclenched his fist around the necklace.

Pietra looked up, guilty hesitation flickering across her face. «She came by. Half an hour ago, maybe. She was looking for you. She dropped some food off—»

«And?» His voice was sharp enough to slice through the room.

Magui's tone came easy, too easy. «We invited her in. But she said she didn't want to bother. So she left.»

Lando stared at them both. His jaw worked, his chest rising too fast. He shook his head slowly.

«No. No, that's not what happened.» His voice was trembling now, rising.

«If that's all it was, then why the fuck did I just find the necklace i gave her in the lobby, and why isn't she answering my fucking calls?»

The silence that followed was suffocating.
Max hovered at the doorway, hands half raised like he wanted to calm him, but Lando didn't even look at him.

His eyes were fixed on Pietra. «Before I lose my shit — you tell me exactly what you both did. Right now. And don't you dare lie to me.»

For the first time, Pietra faltered. Her shoulders sank. Her mouth opened, closed. She glanced at Max, then back at Lando. She had never seen him like this before — pale, furious, and scared all at once.
