The elevator bell dinged.
Five blinked.
What elevator?
It was then that he realised he was crammed into a very tiny elevator with five other people.
The doors opened to reveal a park.
Or something like that.
Distant cars honked, and tree leaves rustled in a gentle breeze.
It didn't look like an apocalypse.
Everyone filed out, looking around.
Lila let out a quiet chuckle. "Cool."
Five ignored her and walked straight over to the statue in the middle of the courtyard.
It was of Reginald's head. A little creepy.
The plaque underneath said:
OBSIDIAN MEMORIAL PARK
GRACIOUSLY DONATED BY
SIR REGINALD HARGREEVES
THIS 1ST DAY OF OCTOBER, 1989
It was safe to say that Five was confused.
"...Luther?"
Five turned. Luther was walking out of the elevator. He blinked. Luther looked....normal sized. No giant body, no ape arms. Luther turned toward Viktor, a smile spreading across his face.
"Oh shit. You can see me?"
"Yes!"
"I'm alive?"
"Yes!"
The two went straight in for a hug, Viktor getting lifted right off the floor.
"I'm alive!"
The rest of the siblings (except Ben) broke out into cheers.
"Luther's alive!"
"Oh my god!"
"Wait. That's not all, big guy."
"Huh?"
Five was pretty sure that Luther was now noticing that his body was average sized, but he wasn't focused on that anymore, moving towards the elevator.
If Luther was alive, then...
It was empty.
Where was she?
Lila came up behind him.
"Where's Stellar?"
Behind both of them:
"Where's Sloane?"
"Oh, uh...she was just behind me when Allison hit the button..."
"She's gone too."
"Stellar isn't here either."
Everyone paused. Three people missing. Five stared at the elevator some more, as if he could will all of them to appear.
Sloane and Allison were alive, that he knew. Or at least, that's what he wanted to believe.
But Stellar...she was dead.
Was she?
Luther was alive.
Maybe she was.
So where was she?
