I sat in the waiting room, scrolling through Twitter on my phone. I wasn't allowed to tweet anything about the audition, which kind of sucked, but if I got the part, they told me I could tweet about it then.
Eventually I got bored of Twitter and closed the app. What to do? What to do?
I smiled, plugged my headphones in and started playing some of the Doctor Who music I'd bought a few months ago. The BBC National Orchestra Of Wales and Murray Gold sure do know how to portray Doctor Who in song.
I set my phone in my lap and found a spare sheet of paper, on which I started doodling. All of which turned out to be Doctor Who related. Hmm wonder why?
I looked around me to see that the only other people auditioning were four blonde girls, a pair of brunette girls, and five guys. Out of the twelve total people, only about four of us looked to be 19. The rest looked 20 or older. I sighed, looking back down at my sketches.
*30 minutes later*
"All right everyone. I need your attention. We will be calling you back one at a time to tell you whether you got the part as Companion or as just an extra. If I could please have Jesse Bownt come back first," the fourth man from the audition table called out.
I watched as a small blonde hurried back to the audition room.
After about seven people had been called I started to get worried. They'd escorted the others out a back way so that those of us left couldn't see their reactions. I had no idea if the spot for Companion was still there or not.
"Alright then, Jana Cole. You are the last name on my list. So how about you go on back and find out how you did," the man said cheerily.
I crossed my fingers behind my back and slowly walked in. It's time. It's time to find out my fate. Okay maybe it's not that bad, but still!
I stood in front of the table holding my bag in front of me and waiting. All of a sudden Matt broke out in a large grin, "Oh can I be the one to tell her? Or does Moffat get to do it? Because if you do, I'm putting in a complaint. Moffat gets to do everything."
"That's because I'm the important one here," Moffat said laughing at Matt.
I giggled a little, then stood biting my lip, anxious to see what they had to say.
Moffat sighed, "Fine Matt, you go ahead and tell her."
"You're my new companion! You get to be my new companion," Matt practically exploded with happiness. Which was weird, considering I should be the one overly happy and excited. Whatever, Matt is a strange man. One that I could get used to.
And then it hit me. I'm going to be the new companion. I'm going to be the new companion!
I smiled, then started doing that thing that people do when they're really happy but don't know how to express it. That thing where they laugh and cry at the same time.
Matt grinned and came over to me, "You okay?"
I nodded and smiled more, "Perfectly fine. Okay, more than fine. Amazing. I'm amazing."
He laughed a little, then pulled me into a hug, "Welcome to the cast of Doctor Who."
"Thank you," I replied, hugging him back.
