fifty one.
I woke up lying on my stomach, the covers lazily draped over my body. I rolled over to an empty other side of the bed. I groaned in disappointment, wishing Daryl was there to pull me close to him and convince me to stay in bed with him like he did yesterday. I dragged myself out of bed and pulled on my clothes before walking downstairs to the kitchen to find my box of cereal. I pulled it out from where I put it last and dug into it. Rick and Michonne were in the middle of a conversation in the hallway. They both stopped to look at me.
"Morning," Michonne smiled.
"Morning," I smiled back. "Do you know where Daryl went? He wasn't in bed when I woke up."
"Probably somewhere in the woods," Rick thought. "I know he's been a little antsy on getting back outside the walls."
"Aw shit," I muttered, storing the cereal box back in its place. I'd have to go out there and find him, wherever the hell he was at now. Who knows how far he could've went. "Thanks. I guess I'll be back later."
"Be careful," Michonne called out to me as I walked towards the front door.
"I will," I responded before walking out and starting my venture over to the armory. I retrieved my sword from Olivia and made my way over to the gate where Nicholas had to slide it open for me. I ignored my judgmental stares and curved into the woods, keeping my eye out for any sight of Daryl. I didn't know how to track anything one bit but I was determined to try. He couldn't have gone far. After a few minutes walk, I was able to see his faded angel wings through the trees. I moved forward towards him. A twig snapped beneath my foot, Daryl turning to my location and raising his crossbow without hesitation.
"Come out," he hissed. "Now."
"Hey, it's just me," I said, stepping out onto the trail with my hands up in surrender. He lowered his crossbow, his face softening a tad.
"What're ya doin' out here?"
"Just wanted to know where you were," I admitted. "The bed was empty when I woke up."
"Shoulda known I was out here," he said. "Really wouldn't be anywhere else." His voice trailed off as he walked away from me. I followed him.
"You never told me. I just wanted to make sure you were where Rick said you'd be and that you were okay."
"Why're you so worried? I'm fine."
"I don't know... it was too quiet there without you. I-I just don't wanna be alone since we're in a new place. We still don't really know these people..." my voice trailed off as I started to think about how we were both ripped away from each other right out of that train car. I could feel myself start to clam up, my muscles becoming stiff as we entered into a clearing. A horse with a glossy black coat grazed a few feet in front of us, oblivious to the fact we were there. My body immediately relaxed, erasing all horrific thoughts as I became enamored with the horse's presence. I hadn't seen one in such a long time that I'd forgot they once existed. A soft smile painted my lips. I could see Daryl staring at me out of the corner of my eye, reading my body language towards seeing the horse. He began searching for something, wandering a few paces away from me. I could see him gathering up a tattered rope he found in the tall grass. He began to tip-toe towards it.
