The remaining uninfected trolls gathered inside the bunker. The air buzzed with nervous energy and the smell of too much coffee.
Clay, Laguna, and Floyd stood by a cluttered board filled with notes, diagrams, and half-erased equations — all of them wide-eyed and jittery from caffeine.
"Okay," Clay began, pacing in front of the board. "We know the cloud people seem immune to the infection. We believe they're the key to ending this virus once and for all — and curing everyone. Laguna?"
Laguna straightened, brushing stray curls from her face. "Right. So, since they're immune, the plan is simple. Step one: we need a cloud person. Step two: once they're inside the infected troll's body, they'll absorb the venom from the inside. The process takes about fifteen to twenty minutes. It won't hurt them — but it'll drain all their energy."
She tapped a diagram showing a cloud troll surrounded by energy lines. "When the venom's extracted, it'll leave the infected unharmed, and the cloud person will expel it safely afterward. Once we do this for everyone, the infection will be gone."

John crossed his arms. "And you think this will work?"
Clay nodded, confidence burning in his tired eyes. "I know it will. The cloud people can't be infected. That's the advantage we've been missing."
