“Jungkook, please open up!” Jin’s pleading voice echoed through the empty hall.
It had been two hours since Jungkook had locked himself inside the gym. Jin had tried everything; calling, knocking, reasoning but the younger refused to come out.
Jungkook was stubborn.
Painfully stubborn.
Inside, the rhythmic thud of fists meeting a punching bag filled the air. The sound was violent, desperate each strike a reflection of the storm brewing in his heart.
“Leave me the fuck alone!” Jungkook’s voice broke as he hit the bag again, harder this time.
“Doing this will only hurt you,” Jin said softly through the door. “It’s enough that one person’s already bedridden. Please, open up. Let’s talk it out, okay?”
“What do you know, hyung?” Jungkook’s tone cracked as the weight of his own words caught up with him. “Just go ahead and pin it all on me.”
The sound of his punches slowed until all that was left was quiet sobbing.
“It’s all my fault…” His voice was low, almost a whisper, filled with self-loathing.
Outside the door, Jin’s heart twisted painfully. His world felt like it was caving in around him, watching his younger siblings fall apart one after the other.
“Jungkookie, please open up,” Jin begged again, his voice trembling.
After a long, suffocating silence, the door finally creaked open. Jungkook stood there eyes red and swollen, face pale, body trembling from exhaustion.
“Hyung…” His voice was hoarse, almost broken.
Jin didn’t hesitate. He pulled the younger into a tight embrace, his hand cradling the back of Jungkook’s head.
“Don’t scare me like that again,” Jin whispered. “You don’t have to lock yourself away. It’s not your fault.”
Jungkook’s lips quivered. “I didn’t mean to say those things to her, but I did… and now she’s like this. I feel responsible, hyung.”
“You didn’t mean them, and you couldn’t have known,” Jin said gently, pulling back to meet his gaze. “Now isn’t the time for self-blame. We have to get her back on her feet and we can’t do it without you.”
He gripped Jungkook’s shoulders firmly. “Listen to me. This isn’t your fault. You never wanted this to happen, okay?”
Jungkook bit his lip, tears threatening again. He gave a small nod. “I’ll be good, hyung.”
Jin chuckled softly, brushing his hair affectionately. “We’ve had enough of your mischief to last a lifetime. You don’t have to change who you are.”
Jungkook managed a weak smile. “Can I see her?”
“Not right now. You need to rest first,” Jin said kindly. “Once you’ve calmed down, we’ll talk, okay?”
“Okay,” Jungkook murmured. “I’ll be in my room.”
Jin watched as he walked away, his heart heavy. Every step Jungkook took felt like a reminder of how fragile everything in their home had become.
If only he could take all their pain away, he would.
Sighing deeply, he made his way to the living room, where the others sat with anxious faces.
“How is he, hyung?” Namjoon asked, standing up as soon as Jin entered.
“He blames himself,” Jin replied tiredly, collapsing onto the nearest couch. His voice was raspy, drained.
“But he didn’t do anything wrong,” Taehyung said quickly, though doubt lingered in his tone. “We didn’t even know.”
Yoongi scoffed. “Really, Taehyung? You’re pleading innocence now? You too, Jimin?” His voice rose, anger sharp and raw.
“Yoongi, don’t” Jin warned, sensing where this was going.
“No, hyung!” Yoongi snapped. “Bitna’s in that state because of us! And you’re seriously pretending we’re innocent? If anything, those two...”
“Don’t you dare finish that line, Yoongi.” Jin’s tone was low but dangerously sharp.
Yoongi clenched his fists, jaw tight, fighting to hold his tongue.
“You always do this, hyung,” he said bitterly. “You always defend them. When will you stop covering for their mistakes? They need to understand that actions have consequences. And Bitna…” His eyes darkened. “Bitna is living proof of that.”
“Proof of what?” Jin snapped, rising to his feet.
“Proof that we failed her! Proof that we all made her life miserable! Who reignited her fears, huh? In case you forgot—your precious lastborn did. Jungkook did—”
Before Yoongi could finish, Jin’s fist connected with his face.
The sound echoed.
Yoongi stumbled back, clutching his lip as blood trickled down. Jin stood over him, eyes burning with fury.
“It’s enough having one person in pain, and now you say what?” Jin’s voice thundered. “What did you just say?!”
He stepped closer, shaking with rage. “Repeat it, Yoongi. I dare you.”
Namjoon and Hoseok exchanged terrified glances. None of them dared to move.
This was a side of Jin they rarely ever saw.
Yoongi glared up at him, biting his lip hard enough to draw more blood, torn between pride and regret. He didn’t realize how much his words had cut until he saw the horror on his brothers’ faces.
The air grew thick with tension, heavy enough to choke on.
Jin’s fists trembled. Yoongi’s breathing was ragged.
Namjoon finally forced himself between them. “Enough!” he said firmly, his voice slicing through the silence. “This isn’t helping. If we fall apart now, how do we expect Bitna to get better?”
Jin took a shaky breath, running a hand through his hair as he tried to calm himself. “I know,” he muttered. “I know this won’t fix anything. But damn it, Yoongi” He turned back, eyes glassy. “You don’t get to blame Jungkook. None of us do. We all made mistakes.”
Yoongi gave a bitter laugh, wiping the blood from his lip. “Mistakes?” he whispered. “That’s what you call it?” His voice cracked slightly. “Bitna’s lying there, unresponsive, because of our mistakes.”
Jimin flinched. His hands curled into tight fists, guilt written all over his face. Taehyung couldn’t even look up.
Hoseok sighed heavily, his voice low. “Then what do you want us to do, Yoongi hyung? Tell me. What’s your solution?”
Yoongi’s anger deflated, leaving only exhaustion behind. He sank into a chair, rubbing his temple. “I don’t know,” he admitted softly. “I just… I can’t stand watching her like that. And I can’t stand us acting like nothing happened.”
Jin’s expression softened. He finally understood—Yoongi wasn’t just angry. He was terrified. They all were.
“None of us are pretending nothing happened,” Namjoon said quietly, his tone steady and reassuring. “But tearing each other apart won’t bring her back.”
The silence that followed was long and heavy, every brother lost in his own guilt.
And then just when the room had fallen completely still—
A soft, fragile voice broke through.
“Oppa…”
