Bree bounced beside Becca in the cab. They’d landed in Dallas and were on their way to surprise the boys at their hotel. The boys had spent all day doing promotion for the show the following night. The girls spent most of their day dodging the boys’ texts and calls. They claimed to be incredibly busy with summer classes. Neither one of them were taking summer classes. The boys didn’t know that. The girls needed an excuse. Becca hated ignoring Niall so much. She pictured Niall being so disappointed when she didn’t text right away. He was used to quick replies, and if they were going to be slow, she told him. Becca knew that so she conveniently told him once and not again.
She checked her phone to see another text from Niall, asking if she could take a break. She texted him back. “Maybe for a few minutes.” A few minutes later, her phone rang and it was him. She pretended to be tired. “Hey, hun.” Becca held her finger up to her lips for Bree.
“Hey. You sound exhausted,” he said.
“I am. This stupid paper will be the death of me. How’re you? How’s Dallas?” she asked.
” ‘s nice. Very hot, though,” he answered.
“Are ya pink?” she giggled.
“Little bit. Not much,” he laughed.
Becca and Bree got out of the cab after it had stopped at the hotel. Niall luckily didn’t pick up on the noise. “Dallas is a great city.”
“You’ve been?” Niall asked.
She grabbed her bags from the trunk. “Several times for shows. Last time was in 2009. Saw Jonas Brothers.”
“Of course,” Niall chuckled.
“Good show, even if they looked like ants,” she laughed as they walked in. “Hey. Talk to Bree while I go potty.” She handed the phone to Bree so she could check in.
While Niall and Harry had no clue where they were, the rest of the boys did. It was actually their idea. Harry had been moping like crazy. Niall was just a little down. Liam figured it’d be a good idea to have the girls there. He set it all up with Paul.
Becca checked in quickly. When she finished, Bree handed the phone back before hefting her bag up. The two girls headed to the elevator. “Sorry, Ni. I grabbed more coffee.”
”More coffee? It’s like…”he paused. “…almost elevator there.”
”Coffee fuels the brain for paper writing. Probably going to be pulling an all-nighter.” She felt so bad lying to him, but he was only six floors above her. The elevator dinged, and she winced. “You sound tired too. Maybe you should go to bed soon.”
“I will when we get off the phone.” She could hear him yawn. “I’m afraid I won’t be on much longer,” she frowned as they got off at their floor. They went to their room to drop off their bags. Then they went back to the elevator to get to the boys.
“That’s fine, love. As long as I get to hear from you,” he said, yawning again.
Becca smiled to herself. “I’m not gonna let you go without hearing from me.” They stepped out of the elevator, and Becca looked at Bree, who kept biting her lip. “I have to go, love. You get some rest, and I’ll text you when I wake up. Night, babe.”
Niall mumbled a goodnight, and they hung up. Becca looked at Bree. She could tell the younger girl was nervous. Bree sometimes fretted over the silliest things. This time it was as if Harry would be happy to see her. Of course he would be, but Bree was still nervous. Becca texted Liam, and he gave her the room number. As they arrived in front of the door, they straightened themselves out. Then Bree knocked on the door. They could hear Harry curse as he made his way to the door. When he opened the door, he stammered over his words.
