RAIN’S POV

The night air hit my skin like ice. My lungs burned as I ran outside, the music from the party fading behind me until it became nothing more than a dull echo.

I stopped near the backyard fence, bending slightly as I tried to catch my breath. My heart felt heavy — like someone had tied a stone around it and dropped it into water.

I wiped my face with trembling hands.
“He’s not mine,” I whispered to myself. “He was never mine… so why does it hurt like this?”

The garden lights flickered softly, casting shadows that swayed with the wind. The night was quiet except for the faint thumping of bass from inside.

And then — a voice.

“Rain?”

I turned quickly, my heart jumping. It was Sky. He walked toward me, concern etched on his face.

“I’ve been looking for you,” he said softly. “Are you okay?”

I tried to force a small smile. “I’m fine, Sky.”

He frowned, stepping closer. Without a word, he draped his jacket around my shoulders. “You don’t look fine.”

I gripped the edges of the jacket, unsure whether I wanted to hide or to be comforted.

He crouched slightly, looking me in the eyes. “You saw something, didn’t you?”

I lowered my gaze. “Phayu… he was with someone else.” My voice was barely a whisper.

Sky’s expression softened. “Then he doesn’t get to see how much you care.”

I blinked, confused. “What do you mean?”

“Sometimes people don’t understand what they have until it’s gone,” he said quietly. “But that’s not your fault. You can’t control what others feel.”

Something in his words felt warm — soothing — and for the first time in hours, the weight in my chest lifted slightly.

I closed my eyes, letting his presence ground me. “Thank you… Sky,” I murmured.

He gave a small, reassuring smile. “You’re stronger than you think, Rain. Don’t let one moment ruin everything else.”

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I wanted to believe him. For now, just this once, I let myself feel safe.

We walked back toward the glow of the party, his hand brushing mine for just a second. It was comforting, almost grounding. But a tiny part of me couldn’t shake the feeling that… something was different about tonight.

Something I couldn’t yet put into words.

For now, though, I let it go. I let myself be Rain, for the first time in hours, feeling a little lighter, a little less broken.
