The walk back was silent. Hollow. The halls have yet to fill with the chatter. Only his steps resounded, dampened by the drums of his heart clogging his ears; clenching his chest as it begged for attention.

'I should've known.' His grip tightens, forcing his attire to groan. 'How could I be so careless? So...'

"You both left all that mess behind, and expect me not to find out?"

'So stupid!' He gritted his teeth, the events of that battle popping as bubbles along his boiling blood. 'Of course she'd figure me out—anyone would've! I'm just the only idiot who didn't see it!'

"Fine... you leave me with no choice."

He held his head, holding it stable as it faltered against the weight of his misery.

'I can't promise anything.'

His memory fades; darkness surrounding all but the sight in front of him. Him and Lana, sitting side-by-side on the cafeteria table, making up for the broken pledge that costed him his life. If only he had studied the night before...

'I can't protect anybody.'

A wet tear of flesh announced from behind, before the rigid thud of Cubbie's head and corpse echoed as a cruel reminder. If only he was a bit faster...

'I can't even protect myself.'

Bloomie raced past him, dancing with her blade to seize the head of his previous life. If only he was smarter...

'I'm too weak to do anything on my own.'

Flakes of snow infested the air, patting the behemoths needle-like legs as he helplessly watched her approach his hiding spot. If only he was a little stronger...

'Why...? Why am I like this!'

His eyes begin staining with water, the weight of each failure pouring inside every drop.

'Why can't I do anything right? Why am I so useless...? Why was I even-'

"So, if you want to set yourself free... then I suggest you do your part in this deal."

. . .

He frees a weighted sigh, wiping any potential tears from streaming down.

His thoughts were buried. Drowned. Forgotten as he pushed through the halls.

'Endure it.'

"Oliver, huh?" He looks down at his chest, sensing his vigor still pulsing with life. Despite his refusal, even he can't deny the possible benefits of his targets execution. After all, he isn't just a bully, he's a psychopath—willing to sacrifice just about anybody in this school if it meant his girlfriend would be fed.

If it was anyone else, and ignoring the obvious enemy he'd make, he might've given the offer half his consideration.

But Grace isn't just anyone. If anything, she's just as responsible for every 'missing' child here as Oliver and the teachers are. The only problem is she's stagnant—an observer—only until the situations convenient for her. Which then begs the question... why send him after Oliver?

He isn't a physical powerhouse, nor has he ever shown to possess supernatural abilities like him and the others... at least as far as he knows. The only way he can see some warrant in all of this is his relationship with ∆lice... but at that point, wouldn't targeting her make more sense?
