The letter flutters down into the darkness, and I smile at the sound of it hitting the other envelopes at the bottom. Just as I turn away from the bright red post box, someone jumps onto my back, and latches their arms around my neck and their legs around my waist. I feel myself start to fall backwards from the weight, and struggle to keep myself up, sticking my arms out in front of me. The person is absolutely silent, but I have a pretty good idea of who just attacked me...
I open my mouth, take a huge breath and let out the loudest scream I can manage.
Dan instantly removes his arms and legs from my body and stumbles backwards, almost falling over. I spin on my toes and give him an evil smile, before running as fast as I can away from him.
"Envy! That was so mean!" He calls, and I look behind to see him getting to his feet. I scream and run faster at the sound of his heavy footsteps. I have the biggest, stupidest grin on my face and my hair is flying out in every direction but I don't care that I look silly - I'm with Dan and I'm happy.
"Envy! I will get you!" He shouts, his footsteps slowing. I stop running and turn to see him doubled over, hands on his knees. I can't help but laugh at him; he's so unfit.
"Oh, of course you are, especially like that - what great tactics!" I call back sarcastically. Dan lifts his head and narrows his eyes, I do the same. He stands up straight, and I put my hand on my hip sassily. He takes a step forward, I take a step back.
Suddenly, before I even realise it Dan is a few feet away - I have mere seconds to escape. I scream again and start running, but I don't get very far. There's a shin-height fences almost directly behind me, that I had forgotten existed. I fall face first into the grass on the other side, throwing my arms out in front of me to prevent a broken nose. But of course, Dan is right behind me, and falls exactly where I do.
We burst into fits of uncontrollable laughter, laying with arms and legs tangled in the grass.
"Told you I'd get you," Dan says quietly, once we're both able to breathe again. His toffee coloured eyes stare directly into my grey ones, and I notice we're only centimetres apart. My breath catches as the butterflies come storming back, and I realise I can't move. A few strands of hair fall across my face but I daren't move them. Dan reaches his hand up and gently tucks them behind my ear, and I can't help but notice how typically cliche and movie-like this moment is. But I'm not complaining.
"You have a scar," he says, tracing the faint line from the corner of my eye to my cheek bone.
"Yeah, I fell of a chair when I was five... There was a glass table beside me. You can figure out what happened next." I explain.
Dan smiles and pushes himself up on one elbow. I attempt the same thing, but decide that actually its rather nice down here in the grass. And I can't be bothered to actually move. Dan laughs at my laziness and sits up, crossing his legs. He smiles down at me and I smile back, not moving from my position on the grass.
"You're so lazy En, oh my god," he chuckles, and I wave my arms about a bit to emphasise his point. He laughs again and I smile. I like his laugh.
"You've got a pretty smile," he tells me. I feel the heat rush to my cheeks and turn away so he doesn't see me blush. But I can't hide completely because of my position on the grass, and Dan starts giggling.
"Shut up, you," I laugh back, punching his arm.
"Hey, you moved!" He jokes, immediately moving away and sheilding himself from any potential violence. My jaw drops in mock offense. Dan winks and stands up so quickly I barely even realise, before jumping the fence and running. I scramble up after him and run through the streets of Manchester, almost falling over a few times due to uncontrollable laughter and shouting after Dan. We run for what seems like hours, although its only minutes - neither of us fit enough to run that far... Dan jumps through fountains and over fences and flower beds, and I stumble after him carelessly until we reach the patch of grass with the shin-height fence that we started from. We collapse in a heap once again, crying with laughter and struggling to breathe.
"Told you I'd get you."
